Mongolia Beginning of July? For slow trip.

Hi,

I will be in Barnaul in the next day or two and Assuming the bike can fixed with the minimum of delays I am planning to enter Mongolia around the beginning of July and to be in UB for Nadaam with maybe a bit of n explore to the Gobi.

It would be nice to have someone to travel across the northern route.

We are riding a 950 2up so land speed records are out, I am thinking 200-300ks a day.

Anyone interested let me know.

Thanks,

Craig

Hi Craig

We're in Zlatoust (100km west of Chelyabinsk) at present waiting for our shocks to be returned. I think you'll be entering Mongolia before us but keep us posted with your schedule. We're on an outfit and don't travel too quickly either.

Even if we're too late for riding together, maybe catch up with you in UB for a drink?bier
Cheers

Iain

Okay I see where you are. I may end up in Barnaul for longer than I expect. The freewheel on starter mechanism on my 950 seems to playing up. I am hoping it can be patched up inbuilt Victor otherwise I will waiting for some parts from Europe, luckily than can also be fixed with some LC4 parts. And I have to Barnaul in the first place, so far I have made it from Tokokul in Kyrgyzstan.

Hi Craig

I had this same problem on my 950 (bought it new 9 years ago but I've left that at home this trip) and yes, I fixed it with parts for the 640 (got one of those too :innocent:). If you have problems getting the stuff, I'm sure the spragg/starter clutch assembly is a common fit on lots of big singles and all Ducatis. Out here, you might try quad and snowmobile type shops? Do you have (or have you ordered) the freewheel puller?

The cause of this on my bike was a poor connection on the starter motor which gave the symptoms of a flat battery but because of the poor connection, the engine wasn't spinning causing the spraggs not to engage correctly which allowed them to slip, causing the excessive wear.

Have a look at it first though as you may be able to just file the rough edges off the spraggs.

Hope this is of help

Iain

Hey thanks for that. I haven't ordered anything so far. See what disassembly brings, it has been a bit better behaved today. I have the puller for the flywheel with (well a big bolt but same thing).

I am now only 200ks from Barnaul so all being well it will at the mechanic in the morning.

Provided my bike is not stolen tonight. It is not very secure in a town where it attracts lots of interest. Might have to sleep in my shoes. Good thing is the police took me here (very nice of them) so that might help.

Hi Craig, I am afraid we misst us. We are already out of Mongolia again, past the Altai, think we saw you passing buy with two white helmets, and are now in Irkutsk for the Baikal and later on direction Vlad. Hope you solved all your problems. I am waiting for parts too. Good Luck! Mongolia was hard with two up.
