Mexico - Cuba - Panama on Stahlratte

On April 12th I'd like to leave on a trip with the infamous Stahlratte from Mexico to Cuba, Jamaica, Isla providencia and Panama.

See for more info: https://www.stahlratte.org/?page_id=19
(Scroll down for 2019)

Any others that are planning on going?

Any experiences? Any tips what to bring aboard? How to protect the bike from the salty environment?

Where does the ship leave from in Mexico? I can't get the link to work on my phone for some reason. I'm currently in Monterrey heading south for the next 5 months through Mexico

It leaves from Isla Mujeres small island of the coast of Cancun
I was quoted 1650$ for the trip, excluding Cuba. That part I'll be riding (of course).

Cool man! Sounds great. my plan is to ship my motorcycle from Veracruz over to Europe in April but if for some reason that doesn't happen maybe I'll jump on the boat and get to Panama and ship the bike to Europe. The hard part will be protecting the bike from the salt water [emoji3517]

Indeed, I thought about the salt water. But, they wrap it got, judging from the pictures. And you can spray it with a protective coating. Just have to source the cans [emoji16]

They rapped and sprayed my buddies KLR who I met down in Colombia and it got pretty rusty pretty quick. Maybe he just had bad luck? We had to replace his front fork lower chrome tubes down in Ecuador because of the rust [emoji31][emoji25][emoji19]

As far as I know only very few people had problems with rust during our trips.
Maybe you should contact Ludwig directly on the boat and hear what he has to say about that: info.steelrat@les-raisting.de

And by the way there is an earlier Cuba roundtrip option from Isla Mujeres / Mexico too ;) https://advrider.com/f/threads/cuba-...-2019.1087128/

My KLR rusted easy after 4 days riding in the rain along the west coast. Normal. Just grease all the bolts with a light layer and bag it tight with a cover
