Machu Pichu - the back way
I´m leaving either tomorrow or the day after to machu pichu (sp!?) via santa teresa.
Anyone want to come along? Anyone with a GPS and extra fuel carrying capability will be treated like a god and I will ride in front of you scattering rose petals on the trail  |
You don't need the GPS; the route is obvious and entirely without options for getting lost. Fuel shouldn't be an issue either, depending on all the usual factors. Rose petals, however, will be difficult to find--you might want to bring these from elsewhere.

I just rode form Cuzco to machu pichu a week ago. Because of landslides we could only make it to santa teresa. then we had to cross the river on a foot bridge that you can't get your bike down too. then hike the rest of the way following the rail tracks.

Mark - you are right. its easy peasy to navigate and theres fuel at santa maria, the last town before the santa teresa turn off. No rose petals anywhere!
Pat - We had more landslides than roads ( it was quite entertaining at times!) Theres a hostel in santa teresa called yamumama (or something similar) that will store your bike and taxi you up to the hydroelectric plant. Very nice folks they are too. |
