Hi James
I'm seeing a guy today about his trip he done 3 years ago. I also know a Egyptian guy who has his own travel company, I'll give him a ring this week to sort the route out. Might have to go through Isreal if ferries isn't running from Turkey. |
Sounds good.
If you could post any worthy info on here, that would be brilliant. Especially any details about ferry crossing. Thanks Paul James |
Folks, don't want to put a damper on people's planning but be aware that there are currently no ferries from Greece or Turkey to Egypt. Also currently the Egyptians willnot bikes or 4wd across the Sinai so entry via Israel to Egypt is a non starter. There is a long thread on the North Africa part of this site discussing this issue.
From my research (done because I'm currently in Ethiopia heading north back to Europe) your options appear to be: (i) Bikes - air frieght into Cairo from which ever European city suits you - and then prepare to do battle with Egyptian customs to release your bike. (ii) Bikes - air frieght to Khartoum (or Addis Ababa. or Nairobi) for a potentially easier time clearing customs. (iii) Cars and bikes - sea freight into Alexandria with same Egyptian customs clearance challenge. I know Grimaldi lines have a weekly ro-ro service from UK and Italian ports - there are probably lots of other options as well. Hope this helps. Good luck with the planning. Ok
so it looks like the easiest way of getting my Land-cruiser into Egypt is to ship it from England to Alexandria @ £ 595 that don't include customs and so forward in Egypt. You can pay a fixer to sort this out from 2500 - 4500LE. So I'll be looking at getting a fixer to sort Egypt side out. This is a good read: Shipping Cars | 4-wheel-nomads |
