London to Cape Town through west Africa travel partner and Advice!!!

Hi Guys,

Im planing a trip down to Cape Town through West Africa then possible back to London before continuing on to India, that part is still not decided as im still not to sure of the final traveling cost??
I have worked as a Overland Driver in East Africa running trips from Cairo to Cape Town so know that area very well and how much that will cost!!!
Im a Australian guy and will be shipping my 4x4 to London to do this trip.
One reason why im posting is id like some information on off the tourist track destinations, and to see if anyone out there would like to do the same trip or would like to be my travel buddy!!
Ill be traveling in a Expedition set up Landcrusier and only have room for one person as the rear of the 4x4 has been set up to store all the gear, Fridges, recovery gear!!!
My aim of this trip is to do it like a Camal Trophy? meaning i want to find some very challanging 4x4ing along the way. I still want to do the tourist thing but the chance of spending days on end only covering 10km to 20km would not be out of the order through countries like Cameroon, Congo .
I have posted on the South African 4x4community forum for advice on possible routes.
My travel partner would have to have some skills sorry. If you know how to fix things your at the top of my list!! Im a mechanical fitter and had over 3 years experience fixing flogged out overland trucks in Africa so i know that West Africa will be even harder. Secondly if you know how to speak french go to the top of the list. But in the end you just have to be up for a challenge....your going to get very muddy wet and there will be days it just sucks!!!!! But in the end it will be well worth it!!!!

This trip is not planed till 2013 so there is plenty of time to get things ready!!

Looking forward to hearing back form someone up for a real adventure.

The pictures are of what i will be traveling in.

King Regards

DRC Crossing East to West

Mountainman,

Cheers for that. Very interesting reading was a great blog!!! I know now it is possible to do the DRC in the south. I would like to get to the other side with my car in a bit better condition on the other side but!! Not to sure i like the idea of bouncing back and forth off the walls just to stay on my wheels. I like the panels straight or close to it. lol

Cheers Patrick (travelingaustralian)
