Seeing if anyone is going to be in australia at the same time. I am currently riding in south america and will be flying over mid Jan. would be great to ride or meet up with some others.

I have not set my route yet but know I will be ending in Darwin to head over to Timor.

cheers Ryan

If you come through Rockhampton I can put you up. Heading north at that time is hot and probably wet. Factor in cyclones and possible road closures due to flooding

Thanks TS,

The hospitality would be much appreciated! I will eventually be going through there on my way North. Probably stay south for a few months when I arrive and then work my way to the North.

Since this is your homeland any route suggestions to cover the south ie: between Perth and Sydney before heading up the east side North much appreciated.

Jan = Summer = hot everywhere ... but some places are cooler than others. It is also school holidays so places will be crowed.

How long are you staying? That will set a travel limit.. distance wise as well as time. What are your interests? People, scenery, cities, ?

Head south - it will be cooler. The 'Snowy Mountains' are good riding and elevated - so should be cooler than most places. From there I'd head along the Murry river to the Grampians, then south to the coast and along to Adelaide (particularly the Adelaide hills). Some of this may be fire effected at the time. But we all hope not.

If you have the time (+ money for the ferry) then a side trip to Tasmania is very nice.

Warin,

I plan on staying 3-6 months. And as for interests I like all of the above mentioned. For example I like cities, but then need to get out of the hustle for awhile and chill in the country. I was planning on staying south for a bit as the North will eventually be my departure (Darwin). Thanks for the route suggestions i will look into them. Never thought about Tasmania?

I second the Snowy Mountains mate, I live in Wollongong and from here you can follow the coast down to Bega then up through the Snowy Mountain Highway. Any questions don't hesitate to ask

North North

If you make it even further north on the east coast than the Travelling Strom then give me a shout. We are in the Atherton Tablelands inland from Cairns. Altitude, not so hot, less humidity and great scenery/roads etc.

Cheers
Marty

Don't forget to use the communities when you arrive (or even just before) - lots of us love to host people passing through town - and we can supply upto date info and beer

Thanks everyone for the hospitality offers. Great idea about the community will send out a hello before I arrive. Nothing better than local knowledge and hospitality. :scooter:

Ryan,

I am looking at arriving in Australia by November, coming from the Philippines. I am not sure of my arrival port (still looking at shipping costs) but it looks like either Darwin or Brisbane. I am looking at spending 3 to 4 months in Australia. If it works out, we could meet and ride through the south? I like the suggestions that many have made above. I have a BMW F800GS. I would love to talk to you about your South American adventures. Australia is my test run and I hope to ride SA on my next journey.

Thanks,
Frances
