Heading into Mexico and then all the way south
Hi. Soon after 23 Oct I will be leaving LA and heading into Mexico before going all the way south. Anyone out there doing anything similar?

I'm holed up in San Antonio Texas trying to diagnose a stubborn fuel delivery issue: think 90 degrees F, 90% humidity, no breeze, a surplus of Texans in every nook and cranny. But I ought to get this settled within another day or two or four and be headed south at last. Might catch you, if I'm lucky. To the OP, I'm trying to decide whether to backtrack as far as Copper Canyon (I was lured this far east by the undeniable charms of a lady) or just leave that for the return journey next year. Any interest? Mark |
greetings
greetings travelers,
i'm doing the same, but traveling according to climbing areas. estoy escalando! i'm leaving here around the end of october and after i visit waco tanks, and visit friends in jaurez i'll be heading toward hidalgo in search of limestone to climb. toward middle of november i'll be moving further south, so i'm sure i'll see either or both of you down there too! :Dsteve |
In Mexico going south
Hi
I am in Durango at the moment and will ride south hoping to cross to Guatamala around the 5th or 6th of November. If your interested in meeting let me know. I am English on a GS 800. Albert |
Hi Guys, Mark, I can swap you temps and humidity (35C + 99.9% humidity)but you can keep the Texans. Albert, if you havn't done the Espinosa de Diablo then do it, the scenery is "bloody hell" and if you dare to take your eyes off the road the flowers and butterflies at the moment are mind blowing and finally the Belmar hotel in Mazatlan old town is doing a special $220 a night with albeit noisy a/c and a bar just round the corner charges $20.00 for a v.cold litre bottle of pacifico's finest. Incidently, I will be here for another couple of days then continuing with my gentle drift south any drunks welcome to join. Ride safe, Mike.

Hey Mark how's it going for you. I manage to back track to Odessa, TX with a quick fix. Let me tell you, this heat wasn't too much fun as I pushed my orverloaded Ténéré almost 3 miles on the highway yesterday. I couldn't find parts, but I am working on a more permanent fix with radio shack parts... I might be ready to move tomorrow. I just checked-in in a motel and heading for the pool in a minute... |

January departure all the way south from Florida?
I rode my R100GS to Florida from Nova Scotia just before flying to Kenya Oct. 5. So my bike is positioned away from snow and ice when I resume in January. Anyone know downside of starting in January vs. Oct/Nov. when most people start? I want to get down to BA or Rio and ship my bike to JoBurg from there for Phase 2.

In the FWIW vein, I''ve given up fixing my bike (which in any case seems to have largely stopped manifesting whatever was/is wrong) and am in Urique, Copper Canyon. Nice here: great riding, mellow, scenic. Maja, I might catch you after all: first beer on me!
Should be in the central highlands in a few days, southward-bound at a variable pace. Hope to see all or some on the road. Mark |
