Greece to Africa Sept/Oct 2019

Either shipping to Egypt or air freight to Khartoum Sudan and then south via Ethiopia, Djibouti??, Kenya, Tanzania...
Transalp 650 - normally traveling alone, but keen to share experiences/tales/advice on this leg.

Will post whatever way I get there - details of shipping/freighting, costs, experiences, hassles.

If you go via Israel then you run a risk of not being allowed into Sudan. Whilst this link is to the British government website I suspect that this applies to other countries and going to Sudan:

Thanks - yeah passport not an issue but vehicle documentation tracing your shipping/import/export routes especially with Carnet (got to be done!) is a problem. Now considering overland via Turkey-Iraq-Saudi-Sudan - but as of yesterday Turkey's political actions might make border crossings there a bit dodgy.

I am in the process of mapping route from London to Cape Town but cannot leave until January. Would definitely like to know how you get on with the route from Turkey to Ethiopia as Egypt is a no go as the Carnet is so expensive. It almost looks like freighting bike from turkey to Ethiopia might end up being the best option!!

Freighting to Africa

Hi Ash - looking into that too. Freighting Greece to Port Sudan. Just sooooo slllloooow finding information. Still many unknowns about $ and procedures at Sudan end.
As of a day or so ago Turkey looks to suck as an alternate route. And just when Saudi is easing up on its visa requirements. Sigh!

I have found 2 options freighting from Genoa, Italy to Djbouti or fly into Addis Ababa. Waiting for final cost but it looks like its not too different and the customer clearing may be easier at the airport. I have found a local custom clearing agent in Addis as well that will sort the release of the bike out on arrival. Will keep you updated.

No replies to emails

Lack of any timely responses from ANY shipping/air freight companies for over a month...the ones that have replied with "still confirming estimate"...
I got disheartened and figured it was cheaper to ride all the way back across Europe from Greece to Spain and go via Morocco, than pay for another months cheap accommidatuon in Athens trying to raise any response.
Nobody interested in my business....at all.
