Germany to North Cape (Norway)
Hi travellers,
Wish to travel to the North Cape, Norway, this summer. Duration is at least four weeks, better six, departure not before mid of June. The route is not fixed at all, but I've distinct visions about the surface of the streets. That means wherever it's possible to avoid the E-roads, rather to take as many as byways, even some toll roads and several ferries. Namely the Peer Gynt vegen, the Atlanterhavsvegen, the way across Aurlandsfjellet and through the Grimsdalen valley, the Aursjøvegen and not least the Trollstigen. (BTW, I took some of the dirt roads two years ago on my way back from Inari (FI) and it was awesome.) The remaining distance to Nordkapp should be chosen by weather or mosquito pollution. To refund the money investet in tolls and fees I prefer camping or low budget accommodations. I'm 44, male and my bike is a F800 GSA. I'm completely flexible in terms of departure time and starting point if somewhere in northern Poland, Germany or Denmark, respectively southern Norway if you're from Britain and want to take the DFDS cargo vessel. It would be nice to hear from anyone as long as the main goal mentioned above is agreed. Cheers, Holger |
Hi,
I was thinking about same route, up to the Nordkapp. I can start ~15th of July and have up to 4weeks available. Pls let me know, if term is ok for you. I was at Nordkapp 2yrs ago - fantastic place, want to repeat :) I'm 39yo, 1200gs, love campsites, from Poland, can start from any place in EU. |
Hi Jackal,
glad to hear from you. I've uploaded some GPX tracks from the core of my planned route through central Norway for you -- and for everyone else who wants to join -- to my private storage: https://nxcontent.jungle-world.com/o...696c4e08820265 As you can see, there is no strait way heading north, 'cause the journey is the reward. Still interested? Best, Holger |
Hi,
Im out of my gpx reader now (will check it tomorrow), but "no strait way" sounds very good. I can start 17th of July. 2yrs ago I started from PL1st of September, and had spectacular weather up in the north - was very lucky, I guess:) Adieu! |

Hi,
I leave Rotterdam on august 1st to Nordkapp. I can meet somewhere in Germany. Let's have contact: email: djinsital@gmail.com. I have also a R 1200 GS Djin |
Hi,
Track looks very nice :) Im definitely in, but not sure if i can spent 4weeks. 2-3 weeks is more possible. I should be home at 15th of July and want to start as soon as possible - it means abt. 17th. Lets be in touch! |
Hi Folks,
It's nice to hear from you, Djin! @jackal: Departure around mid of July would be appreciated by me too. But I'm a bit confused. Do you want to spend 18 days to reach the Cape and afterwards three to travel back? My offered tracks aren't very precise in question of the daily distance (one track file should be equivalent to one day), but more then 24 hours are hardly to save. Daily distance should not exceed 400 to 500 km, depending of the surface of the road. And ferry times (crossing the fjords) are scheduled. Maybe you could tell me your favorite place to meet. Mine would be Świnoujście. Why heading (slightly) east from my location to reach a destination in the northwest? As mentioned before, the trip is the reward and I've no joy at all to ride 800 km on German and Danish motorways, to reach a region where driving is more pleasure. Riding through the land of Bullerbü and Karlsson-on-the-Roof offers an incentive for the core of the journey. Feel free to upload your own tracks to the space above. @Djin: I've no idea how to join each other. I like to ride earlier, but if you're the iron man, who reaches the Nordkapp in three days, meeting should be possible ;-) On the other hand, if Jackal wants to ride later, departing at August would be fine by me too. Also you are invited to upload some tracks. Generally I'm not very experienced in playing travel agency. So please both of you, help me out! Best, Holger |

Hi guys,
Last time i got to Nordkapp via Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, ferry Tallin-Helsinki, Finland. It was quite boring - flat, straight roads. This time my plan was to get it much faster - via ferry (Swinoujscie-Ystad could be a way) and than explore Norway/Sweden inland. Up to a 400-500km/day - totally agree. Generally speaking, I'm very flexible and also for me RIDE is reward. I love riding and need no any goal ahead. When on the ROAD, i'm planning my "next-day-section" evening time day before. @Holger: it's possible, due to time shortage (really up to 3weeks) i will not reach Nordkapp i had to come back earlier. I wouldn't like to do that - but from other hand i will have no pressure to get there by any means - RIDE is reward itself :) @Djimny: i want to start much earlier than 1st of August, my vacation ends 12 of August... |
I will upload some nice road proposition - Im in contact with Norwegian guy, who knows a lot about south Norway mountain serpentines - im working on it.
regards. |
Some routes to be found here too: Ride Norway | All you need to know for your motorcycle trip to Norway :) Have a great ride!

Hi Jackal,
what do you think about the night passage (two carriers) from Swinoujscie to Ystad. A cabin reservation (as well as for the whole passage) is not mandatory and if the weather plays well, we could try to sleep on deck. Two years ago it was tolerated by Polferries and I slept great, but they bought a new vessel this year and could be a bit more fuzzy. Strategy: Play the role of a thumb German alien and you won't be touched. For the same reason we'll have no trouble at all to meet us at the ferry port. I bet we are the only ones travelling by bike, if I loose the bet, I'll pay the bill for the first and the last Żywiec. I promise! http://www.polferries.com/prices_and...stad/timetable Passenger and car ferries |

Hi all,
@Holger: evening ferry and cold Zywiec - that's what i was thinking :) Still not sure, about exact date to book a ticket - i need to be much closer to mid of July. @indu: thx a lot for info! @dreadhead: looks like we will start abt. 17-18July. If it suits U - than lets hit the road 2gether. best |
Hi guys,
we have a preliminary meeting date and location. Jackal and me will be present at Sunday, July 19th, 6 pm at the ferry terminal of Swinoujscie, PL. No reservation needed. We hope it's convenient for you. Furthermore I'm still looking for someone who wants to reach the North Cape without haste. The way back from Nordkapp is the least fixed thing. Either, in case my tired bones want to take the warm-and-dry-route across Karelia (FI), the Baltic states and Poland, or through Finland (to shake hands with Santa Claus at Rovaniemi), Sweden (impressing moon like landscape around Kiruna), Norway (to hit the roads we skipped on our route north), Sweden (see latter), etc. I can spend up to the end of August, what is unfortunately impossible for Jackal. As mentioned earlier, visit * https://nxcontent.jungle-world.com/o...696c4e08820265 for scheduled tracks. Best, Holger |
Hello Sirs,
I am from Finland and if somebody wants to have info about the routes here (from the North Cape to Helsinki) I can help. I am leaving to Norway at the end of July, but unfortunately only for a few days and somewhere mid Norway. You can write directly to me (juhahytonen@me.com) which is the easiest way to contact. Occasionally I will also follow this forum, but not every day. Cheers, -juha- |
