From Chile to Argentina-Bolivia-Perú

Hey there.
I live in Chile and I´ve been many times in Argentina (north) Bolivia and Perú. I speak English and Spanish.I ride a BMW F650 Dakar and like the less travelled roads.
Is there anyone doing something like this?
Best places ever , don´t miss them.
I´m planning to start the 1 month trip around mid August.
Let me know,
Cheers,
Andres

Andres,

Hi Andres,
I will go from Buenos Aires to Bolivia and Chile in the middle of August and I would be very happy to ride with someone else. Maybe we can meet up somewhere?

It might be

Peer,
what kinda bike do you ride? There will be lots of Ks in the dirt . If you are coming from BsAs we could meet in Mendoza , and from there to the North.
I find much more attractive to get to Bolivia by Argentina.
If I cannot cross by Santiago-Mendoza mountain pass because of the weather conditions , the only chance I have is to get to Argentina about 1500Ks North , by Jama crossing. Weather conditions are inpredictible and the crossing of Mendoza is constantly being opened and closed. It is not the same in the northern crossings by this time of the year ,they are usually open.
We can meet whether in Chile or in Argentina .
Let me know your plans .
Cheers,

Compadre,
viva el Perú!!!!!
Lo que más quiero es explorar Perú por completo.
Ojalá que sigamos vivos para 1 año más ,o que no se haya acabado el petroleo : Si todo va bien , nos veremos por allá .
Un abrazo,

Hey,
no problems buying a bike in Chile : Money can buy it all , from cheap second hand to new bikes. The dollar has drooped a lot down here , so the bikes are at reasonable cost.
Before coming , let me know so I can provide more info.
Rgds,

A KTM Military (have a look at the KTM section of the forum), so dirt shouldn't be a problem. I am planning to go to Iguazu from Buenos Aires and then westward, maybe we could meet around Salta and then go to Bolivia?

Salteñas

Hey Peer,
depending on your schedule. Salta is a great place to meet each other.
Let´s give it a try .
I´m not into this forum all day and I think it would be better to stay in touch via private messages ,straight to my email inbox.
Take care,
Andres

Keep in Touch..

Hi Guys,

We´re at Iguazu at the moment and soon off to the north, Salta/ Jujuy for a bit. Gonna def be in Cochabamba for mid August, as there is a big festival there. Maybe we are a bit in front of you. Do keep in touch as we might be spending some time in Bolivia, before hitting Peru.
We are on a Black Transalp 650 with loadsa luggage. So maybe se you around.
Have a safe one.

Nige

Lichtenstern 25 Jul 2008 19:33

we might meet

Hey,
Cochabamba is not in my way , but anyway , let´s keep in touch.
From Salta you go to Jujuy -La Quiaca. Beware of the aparently shorter way to Uyuni (Tupiza-Atocha-Uyuni) , which is isolated and twisted...believe me.
I definitely recommend you guys go to Uyuni , then Oruro and from there to Cochabamba: After that go to La Paz -Copacabana-Puno (that´s Perú) Sicuani and from there to Colca Valley much better than Cusco.
Take care.

Just in case .....

Hey everyone,
specially Rock and Rumble
Just in case , there will be a confirmation votation on August 10th 2008 in Bolivia , where people will vote to confirm Evo Morales as a valid elected president. Rumours of a boicot and a possible major strike are growing....
I´ve been in Bolivia during political chaos and it´s a pain in the arse . Blocked roads , shortage of fuel and angry people all over.I´m not saying that this will happen , but if you can wait to see how things are going starting Aug 10th , would be wise.
If you can´t avoid it , try to stay out of major cities....
Beware.
Cheers,

Buying a bike in Chile

Hi Andres,

I am from Canada...looking to fly south, by a bike that is already to go with gear, etc (650 Dakar)....want to travel to Argentina/Brazil/Venez...and perhaps then to Panama/Costa Rica where I will stay for many months

Can you tell me how it is done...i.e. getting title/insurance, etc as a foreigner so that you can travel into other countries with no problem (holding a Canadian passport, etc).

I understand that bikes are available, what about gear, aluminum panniers, etc.

Thanks...Lee
