My friend and I are shooting to do the majority of the coast of Africa (excluding certain countries) from the end of March on. Just doing all the research now and wanted to see if anybody else might be interested in joining us for any or all of it. Give me a shout if interested. Still fleshing out all the details. thanks!

Cape Town and then . . .
 

I am wanting to do Cape Town to Egypt and then maybe further either next year or the year after, I don't want to wait too long though. I have just bought a BMW F650 GS 2008 and want to try it to get any bugs ironed out and get it set up for a long trip. I was thinking of doing it alone, but am deciding against that now. Need to work out the best time of the year to do it and not to arrive in Cairo in winter, it's too cold then, but then, summer is very hot!

I lived in Egypt for a few years, know a bit of Arabic and understand the culture somewhat. Maybe that will make things a litte easier.

Preparing to ride Africa
 

I'm a South African planning to RTW over the next few years.
I'm currently in Costa Rica, 15 months after leaving Prudhoe Bay, Alaska heading to Ushuaia for Christmas. Plan to return to SA in mid 09 to ride north to Turkey and Asia in about August. If you plan to ride around then, I'm keen to join. I'm on a F650 GS.
I have found riding solo is more flexible but less safe than in a small group. A breakdown or accident in remote parts can be serious. I was trapped under my bike for an hour in very remote area in mexico, could have been serious if someone hadn't passed by. The road was used maybe three times a week.

I'm very interested, keep me in the loop! Would you buy or rent a bike once there. I'm planning to be in Uganda for mid Feb so I could meet you in cape town??

I am planning to ship my bike over, but don't think I will be ready that early in the year. Still, one never knows the way things go.
