From August 2008: Vladivostok -> Europe

Hey, anyone wants to meet up between Vladivostok and Europe? I plan to buy a bike in Vladivostok and leave for Europe on the Trans-Siberian Highway beginning of August 2008. Unless everything speaks against it, I will buy a used but fairly new Russian bike.

I am male, 33 years, speak Danish, English and German but no Russian. Have been riding and repairing my Kawasaki Z650 since 1996. Dont know how long the trip will take but something like a month, all depending on the road, the bike and weather.

Some of my questions are here:

Hope to see you out there.
Mathias

Vladivostok to Europe

Hi Mattias,

I'm planning to be in Vladivostok by mid July (+/- 5 days).
From there on I'd like to get into Mongolia and see if I can find someone to join me through some offroad stuff. If not, well, it's going to be a tarmac ride through Russia then.

Since I don't want to freeze to much in Russia/Poland, I'm planning to be home in Germany by the end of October '08

I'm a 43 year old German/US dude on a Africa Twin and on the road since October '07.
check out: Projekt: HalbRum

cheers
Michael

No offroad for me

Hi Michael, let me know when you reach Vladivostok. I will be happy to join you for some km's on the way to Europe. But I am not going offroad. Dont know exactly what bike I will buy, but some gravel road will probably be a welcome change from the tarmac. See you. Mathias.

prior to Vladivostok

I would be very glad to meet up in Vladivostok.

Maximondo, which route are you taking out of Indochina? I'll be in Osaka by the 25th of June and will make my way up north to catch the ferry to Russia. I have already signed in to a Japanese bikersite: Gaijinriders Foreign Motorcyclists In Japan and made out some contacts.

Mattias, it seems you are already in Russia. If not, Japan?

Anyway, just let me know when and where we can meet.

Hey Danielle and Michael, I am currently in Hong Kong without any motorcycle. Will arrive in Vladik around 29th July, and then I hope I can find something to buy.
It sounds like you both might be gone from Vladik when I arrive. If you are still there, I will be very happy to meet. Let me know, if we will be there the same time. Really cool routes you both are taking!

I'm heading to the Russian border tomorrow, and heading to Irbit for the Ural Bike Festival on the weekend of 26th 27th if anyone is heading that way and want to meet up. After Irbit, I'll be doing a slower more relaxed pace to Mongolia for up to a month, get another visa for Russia (as the first one they give is only good for 3 months) and then back into Russia to get to Vladisvostok. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Hi everyone,

I have arrived in VLAD. I am leaving tomorrow, due to a motorbike rally heading 100km up the road. I am then going to carry on north. slowly but steadly. if you see a honda xr with Au plates on or a tent - please stop!

I hope to see you all on the road somewhere...

mathiasv 19 Jul 2008 08:28

Hey, i am still in Hong Kong. But enjoy the trip. Happy riding!

mathiasv 29 Jul 2008 06:51

Hey! Now in Vladivostok, depending on how long it takes to buy a vehicle here, I will stay until around 3rd August. Send me a pm if you want to meet and discuss road conditions on the federal highway or.. global petrol prices.

Hello everybody,
I'm in final stage of preparation and I'm leaving from Europe to Mongolia in few days. If nothing bad happens I'll be in Ulaanbaator around August 24. Would be happy to meet anyone of you.

Ulaan Baator to Tashanta

Hi everybody,

I'm in Ulaan Baator now and waiting for my next russian visa.
Planning to leave UB around 4th Sep. and arriving Tashanta by 13th Sep.

Heading west on these awsome mongolian roads would be just great with a companion. Otherwise a bit dodgy, I think.
Anyone there?

michael
