Europe - Cape Town on Motorcycle
I planed a trip from Germany to Cape Town with a friend.
Unfortunetely he backed out at short notice. Start was scheduled about mid July. I dont like to do Africa myself. We wanted to go down south the west route but now I think the east route would be ok too. Is there anybody going this way? I have got time till end of the year. My plan B is to ship the bike to Argentina and ride up to north America. Before I did trips with Backpack, Motorcycle and 4x4. My bike is an Africa Twin. BTW I am 37 years and easy going...I think. Hey man..
I'm doing the East Coast, but heading north from Cape Town. Should be starting in about week, i hope. Maybe we could meet half way for beers and info exchange? Cheers.. Loader |
Hello, yes I am leaving uk on 19th August heading to capetown via east coast and currently planning on riding to turkey and then getting the roro boat to Egypt as doesn't look possible to start in morocco and ride east. Steed of choice is a drz. Would be very happy to ride sections with other people! Are any of you other London to capetowners going to be at Ripley next week? Claire

Hi Loader, are you doing a loop and return to SA or are you heading up north to Europe? Cheers Tom
|
Hello Claire, what is your timeframe to reach SA? Are you going back home the west route or ship the bike?
Cheers Tom |
Hello - I am aiming to reach Capetown by mid Jan, but this is a flexible plan!

I start the west route @ November in a 4x4. Switzerland to cap.
My timeframe is 2 months. So i dont think that someone else want to do that so fast. |
Europe to Cape Town leaving Nov 1 for 6 months
Hey everyone, lookign for riding partner for a planned trip departing italy about Nov 1.I live near Pisa and have a 2009 GS and plan on going to SA via the eastern route for ~6 months. Fly bike and me home to the USA about May 1.
Ferry to Tunisia, thru Libya (or Algeria or maybe something beside the coastal road in Libya), Egypt (Red Sea diving?), the standard eastern route with a major stop over in the Ruwenzori mountains (gorillas and game parks as I can) and then again in Botswana/Namibia. We spent 5 months there some 15 years ago (eastern > africa and naimibia and overland between) so I'm not completely naïve about the territory or the problems I might encounter. Im 54, a mechanical engineer, and lots of varied travel experience (climbing, diving, off road moto), almost all of it with my lovely wife who cant bring herself to join me on this adventure. More about me is on our blog: osssesinitaly.blogspot.com This feels like a dating service but I'd rather not do this alone, and my short list of friends that would be compatible arent at the same time/interest/ability point in their lives. So what the heck. Jim |
Hello mate.. I'm Just going one way, CT to London. Minor bike probs at the moent but should be on way to Namibia in a day or two, then over to Malawi, then North.. Thats the rough plan..
I'll certainly be glad to meet up with any other riders along the way, going either direction. |
Morocco to Cape Town
I'm planning to arrive in Morocco about September 1st and head to Cape Town via Mauritania, Mali,Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, southern Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo Brazzaville, DRC, Angola, Namibia and South Africa.
I'll be riding a lightly loaded DRZ400S and need to be in Cape Town by mid-November. I would be interested in meeting fellow travellers along the way. Any and all advice will be appreciated. Ross |
