Drink a beer/ ride a bit? SOUTH AMERICA

Hi
I'm heading for Foz do Iguassu tomorrow. Then probably towards southern Bolivia/ NW Argentina before turning south along the ruta 40. Will attend the HU meet at Viedma on 4 to 6 December http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/events/argentina-2015 and then on to Ushuaia.

In January I'll follow the Dakar race from BsAs to Uyuni to Rosario and then travel north towards Colombia.

Will be checking old haunts and tracks I visited last time and seek out new sights and sounds too.

If you want to ride together for a bit, we can drink a beer or 3 and check commonality of itineraries and riding styles/ interests.

I'll post here every so often as to where I am/ what I'm doing.

Listen/ look out for a (some might say offensively) loud exhaust attached to a red and black KLR650...

Cheers
Chris

Hey Chris

I hope you’re enjoying the NOA (Northwest Argentina) and the Cuarenta a lot, looks like our ride together and drink few beers will have to wait a bit. A shame that your coming to Buenos Aires will be a little later as the trolls and waterfoxs hunting season is open…. (and they are looking for you)
Keep that KLR running but try to don’t be noisily at siesta and night time as old people gets grumpy!!
Cheers Mate see you soon!

Will be in Uyuni tomorrow before heading for San Pedro de atacama and back to Argentina and south on the Ruta 40.

I concur Javier. I wonder what the resident hu clown will make of this post in order to generate more hubb content.

Shocker cacked out the other day near San Juan near the Salar de Uyuni. Got the bike back to Uyuni and am awaiting a new part from the USA. This should arrive in Bolivia early next week.

Cruising around on buses doing a bit of tourism. In Potosi today. Sucre Thursday. Samaipata at the weekend and then after collecting the offending article, it's back to Uyuni and the second attempt at the Lagunas route to San Pedro de Atacama.

If anyone is around these place, it'd be good to drink a Potosina.

My personal HU troll will be relieved to learn that of the 100 local and tourist vehicles with loud pipes and within earshot at any one time, 99 are still there to disturb his siesta. I'll be up and running again soon though to blend in with the laid back locals.

Collecting new shocker Wednesday in La Paz, then bus back to Uyuni and fit it. Then try again what I was attempting 10 days ago, that is
  • Uyuni to SP de Atacama
  • SP de A to Salta on the pavement
  • Salta to Cachi and then south on Rt 40

Won´t make TdF before the new year now, so most likely to get to about Argentine Lake District for late December and then head north again on the pavement to see the Dakar from Salta to Rosario. Then south on rt 40 again to Patagonia.

Anyone around?

Plan Z

Every time I post here, I seem to have a different plan.... :helpsmilie:

Arrived in San Pedro de Atacama a couple of nights ago. The Lagunas route was sandy/bumpy/hard, but a lot of fun too and the views pretty damn special. The new shocker held up fine, which was rather convenient. Did blow out my fork seals though... Nothing that a syringe and engine oil can't replace though.

The newest plan is to head north from SP d A to Peru and Arequipa/Colca Canyon, then to Lago Titicaca and back into Bolivia (The old road to Coroico, Ruta del Che etc.) for Christmas. Then January for the Dakar and Ruta40 south as previously mentioned.

So, look out for an old shape red/black KLR and given me a wave :scooter:

Hi there
I was reading your post asking about road conditions down to Patagonia with interest. We're indeed heading the same way although my itinerary in January is relatively fixed according to
Route: Dakar between the 9th and 16th. I'm hoping it'll be one of the highlights of my trip to follow the race.

After mid January I'll be rolling down the Ruta 40 at a leisurely pace.

It'd be great to drink some cervezas should our paths cross.

Sounds good. Wouldn't surprise me if we crossed paths ... might be going opposite directions though ...

I'm in Chivay, Colca Canyon tonight (Monday) Aim to be in Copacabana on Lago Titicaca Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Will be heading back to main Arequipa to Puno highway Tuesday morning and just riding all day at 45 or 50 mph. You'll be on the same road?

What bike are you on?

chris 19 Dec 2015 14:57

In La Paz today. Heading east (ish) Sunday. In Samaipata to celebrate the birth of Brian of Nazareth. Flying visit to a Brazilian beach for New Year, then Dakar race in January.

All times are GMT +1. The time now is 02:05.
