Delhi > ???? > Delhi

Hi,

I’m going to be hiring an Enfield from Delhi from the 1st till the 29th of November, and I was wondering if anyone else is riding around this time and is looking for a partner for a bit? It’s my first time using this website and will also be the first time travelling to India, looking forward to the chaos and to meet new people.

I’ve got a couple of ideas of where I’d like to go:

-Head north towards Manali to attempt the Rohtang Pass, and explore Ladakh a bit.

-Explore Rajasthan (Jaipur, Agra, Boroda, maybe the Thar Desert?) then head east towards Varanesi, Kolkotta and Darjeeling? Possibly heading south afterwards.

Otherwise, I’m completely happy to play things by ear and see where the wind takes me. If there’s any bikers in general around Delhi/Rajasthan it would be nice to meet up or have someone help me inspect and hire the bike.

All the best,

Charles

Rohtang Pass is no big deal unless it’s icy….which it might well be at that time of year. “Exploring Ladakh a bit” in early December is either brave or foolish, or perhaps both simultaneously. Maybe they do a better job keeping the roads open than they used to, but I wa told there wa a substantial risk of spending the winter snowbound enroute to Leh.

Where to go and what to do in India is a big topic. I’d think about including Jaisalmer, if only because I’ve been mentally comparing it with a lot of fortified towns in Central Asia, and Jaisalmer has come out on top in each case.

Hope that’s helpful.

As Mark says the high passes are difficult to impassable in winter, I once tried going up from Manali in early November and the road was blocked, another vote for Rajasthan which has lots to see and is easily accessible from Delhi especially for the first time visitor to India. Progress will be slow, don't expect to do more than 150-200 miles a day and be tired afterwards but embrace the experience and spend some time in each city, Rajasthan and a trip to Agra for the Taj should take up most of your month.
You should meet other tourists and perhaps a few other motorcyclists on the road, at places of interest and in tourist hotels, if I want company I look for backpackers hostels and book a private room if one is available.
