Dakar 2007 Anyone going?

Hi, Is anyone travelling to watch the Dakar Rally?

I am travelling from North Wales in November and heading through the Alps/Spain and towards Portugal to meet my girlfriend on 26-30 Dec. From there I travel solo south to see the start of the rally in the new year and heading over to Morocco.
I have a 640 Adventure and I have enjoyed travelling through Europe many times for weeks on end. I have always travelled on a shoe string and always sleep next to my bike in the forests, beaches, parks, car parks, garages, cafes...... dont carry a tent just a good sleeping bag. Hotels are not really my style! I am busy planning this adventure although I do not follow a strict schedule, I keep things spontaneous.
I am 35 in November and work as a builder to fund this lifestyle. Anybody fancy meeting to cross over to Morocco as "I ain't bin b4" ? :thumbup1: Cheers Steve

Dakar 2007

Hi, just seen your post go up !! I'm planning a trip from the UK to Cape Town in 2007, was thinking of leaving late September to get to Morocco for late october. My only plans at the moment are to take things as they come and see how far I get, I am planning on going down the west coast.

I followed some of this year's rally and am likely to do the same in 2007. Much of Morocco is at altitude and very cold in winter. I would recommend electric heated jacket, handlebar muffs and forget about camping!

Thanks for the info Tim much apreciated and helpfull. Your great trip shots look very much like my trip to be!
I actually camped for 2 months up on the Northern Finish/Russian boarder last Xmas (for reasons i'm stilll not quite sure) and it got to -30, I did suffer from some exposure- well thats what the Russian Army who found me told me what it was!- a little scary and confusing but did survive. It wont get that cold, will it ?

Thanks Kev,
I am going through the tunnel on the 30th November. I usualy leave home and get into France in one hit. But your offer sounds helpfull, if I decide to break up the drag down. I'm sometimes able to stick the bike on back of wagon from local haulage firm if I get the timing right for a lift near port so keep me fresh for putting a load of hours in when over to France. I know nearer time but will def keep you posted as it will be good to meet wether it here or there!

Cheers Steve.
