currently in Istanbul, going to Iran

Hi

I am currently in Istanbul solo travelling in direction to Iran. Will start here on Sunday 6. September. Anybody in the region that would like to team up?

Kind regards
Josh

I a few days I guess. It depends on the information I get about the border crossing i.e. which places are open and which are not. There seems to be some instability in the area in Turkey and that needs to be followed as well.

Did you take the coastal road at the back sea? If so: how where the road conditions there? is it easy to just go to cities and look for accomodation, or did you book ahead?

meeting up

Hi Josh and Lynx,

I will be traveling the coastal road along the Black Sea, but I will be riding West from Batumi (Georgia) to Istanbul, next week. So maybe we can meet for a beer and I can tell you where all the roadblocks and shitty hotels are bier

Greetings from Baku Azerbaidjan :scooter:

Hi mika,

tips are always welcome. I will be going to Eregli tomorrow, because I found a couchsurfing host there. Then I will go to Cide and then on the D010 east to Georgia ... then I will decide if I try to cross into Iran or leave it and spent time in Georgia and Armenia.

All the best
Julian

Hi!

I was just breafly at the coast - from Unye to Tirebolu. Stayed 2 night in Ordu which was fine (Egas Hotel close to the beach). I noticed that the price of a room can be much lower if I book it through booking.com than if I go directly to the desk. Once I booked the room in the lobby of the hotel (using their Wi-Fi) and saved 25€.

The road was good. The problems are on the mountains.

I haven't decided yet where to go from Bayburt but it's either towards Agri or Van. If only Bazargan is open I'll have to go there.

It seems difficult. In another thread Mehmet told that the road to agri is cut as a result of some incidents there. Perhaps I should go North towards Georgia.

Can you give me any more info on the mountain roads? Any problems? Much snow?

Cheers Ben

Oh no, it's summer here. But it can be cool as the highest point was 2400 m. The roads are typical mountain roads and sometimes you follow a truck for 10 km with no possibility to take over. Part of the roads were not in good condition but looked like slick although they actually weren't. I thought they were of liquid bituminous slim or something as the surface glittered in the sun. Some road works cause delays at some points with gravel parts etc. No real problems though. Lovely landscapes!

DerJosh: I'm crossing to Georgia at Incedere-Vale tomorrow. It will probably take a couple of days for you to get there and I'm not planning to stay in Georgia but get on to Armenia. But we'll see. Plans change quickly.

We crossed through on 1st September with no issues. We got to the border early (6am) and all was quiet, not many people about, no trouble and didn't feel unsafe.

The day we got to Dogubayazit there was a bit of tension in the air and we heard on the news that there had been some bother but I think the situation differs from day to day. We went out the next day and the mood seemed different.

Hope this helps.
