chiang mai in january
Hi, I will be at the HU meeting in Chiang Mai and will be doing the Mae Hong Song loop and whatever else seems interesting. I am happy solo but if anyone else is about some company would be good.
|
I am currently in Bangkok giving my KTM 640 a well earned service, will be here for a good week, more I think. Not decided what to do then but I want to ride Laos and Cambodia. When is the HU meet so that I can factor that into my plans?

Chiang Mai
Hi guys
I fly into Bangkok on Jan. 6th and will be at the meeting on the 16th as well. Looking to hook up with someone as well. I rode alone there last year and did the loop and the golden triangle as well. I kind of plan on taking a flight from Bangkok to Ankor Wat and then fly to Chiang Mai and renting there. last year I rented a Kawasaki 250 and that was fun. Hit me back we can talk from there. Hi Duncan
The Horizons meeting is on the 16th Jan. It looks like you are planning some interesting riding. I will have to hire a bike there and I think it is complicated getting a rental through the borders. If you are about I could run up to the golden triangle area and wave you on from there wayne |
Hi Larry
I would be great to ride with someone who knows the lay of the land but it looks like you have allready done the bits I want to see. If you don`t mind going over old ground plus some new routes then it could be worth meeting. Let me know what you think. In any case I guess I`ll see you at the meet. wayne |
Cambodia
I too will be at the HU meeting. Then I've got 2 weeks free to play before I go to Cambodia. I'll be riding there for a month if anyone wants to meet for a ride or 2....or even a beer. or 3.

Also here.
Am in Nepal now, but home to make it on the 16 to the HU meeting. See you there... |
Chaing Mai in January
Well it looks like a nice group lining up for the meeting and that will be nice. Yes I have done 30 days of riding there before and would really like to do some more of Laos or Cambodia but if I do that I really would like to hook up with someone. If I do not find anyone for that hitting the golden triangle again is a great area to explore and so it the loop. If anyone wants to email me more off list I would love to talk about your plans. I see where someone was talking about taking a bike across the borders and I do not think that is possible or at least not easy but I do not know for sure. I had planned on renting one and driving it to the border and then walking across the border and renting another one in that country and driving it for several days. The big problem is they take your passport at most rental places so have not figured out just how I will make it all work. That is why I planed to fly from Bangkok to Angor Wat as then I would have my passport and could rent ther for a bit and then fly to Chiang Mai for the meeting and do some more there. If anyone can fill me in some more I would love to hear from you. Larry

I'm still up in the air about it but I was thinking about riding my DR 650 up to the meetig in Jan. Any word on presentations, etc..?
Thanks Canoli |
I'm trying to figure out a decent riding plan which incorporates spending xmas somewhere nice, but may end up being in the middle of nowhere in Laos of Cambodia. I may then need to back track up to Chaing Mai for the meet but can't guarantee anything yet. Will hopefully have my bike ready for Monday.

Count me in, got plenty of time to get there and no plans to speak of.

On my way!
Larry and I have been exchanging some emails. A big trip always makes me a little nervous as the day comes closer. Today I am a little rattley. I am on a morning flight to the States, a few days there and then I arrive in Ho Chi Mhin City next week on the 11th. I have the Chaing Mai meeting on my list and I am looking to have a LOT of fun. Wine, women and song!!!!!
Any one wanting to ride together, please shoot me an email. I have a very loose schedule and can be flexible. Martin in Cartagena |

Re rentals, border crossings, ride reports etc, Motorcycle Touring & Maps: Thailand : Laos : Golden Triangle (and its forum) is the place. If things work out, I'll also be at the meeting. |
It looks like there will be a good crowd at the HU meeting, so I guess it should be possible to see who`s planning what on the day.
I have never been to Thailand before so am pretty flexible on routes etc. see you all there. wayne |
Howdy,
I arrived in Chiang Mai yesterday, yes a little early, but plan on doing some riding around here, possibly Laos & Cambodia as well as the Mae Hong Son Loop before the 16th. Anyone fancy organising a big ride out, maybe just for a day after the meeting? Also if anyone is around at the moment fancy a ride or a beer? |
Chiang Mai
Well I for one would love to hook up with someone to do some touring after the meeting. I would love to head over to Laos and cross over and then rent another bike on that side to ride some more there. I fly into Bangkok on Jan. 6th so my plan was to then fly up to Ankor Wat before coming to Chiang Mai but i could change that plan depending on who else is looking for someone to ride with. Larry

Hi Duncan,
If you have not done the Mae Hong Son loop by then that is what I hope to do after the meeting, as long as I can get bike hire sorted out OK. If your up for it I will see you at the meeting. wayne |

Hi,
I'll be here for a couple more days yet, then plan to head over to Pai for some offroading then complete the loop. Just send me a PM when you arrive. I plan on going to the big bike meet tonight at the 700 stadium if anyone is there. |
Hello, Hello:
I made it to Vietnam, Saigon and will be headed to Hanoi on a rented KTM 150 Tuesday morning. Anyone around, my VN cell number is 01222614771. I plan on 2 weeks to make the trip. Will be in BKK around the 5th. Ride Safe, Martin |
Hi I hope to make the 16th, plan to hire a Y 250 or CB400 and have my first ever 2 wheel adventure! - Hope to ride one of the loops around the north, and think I should have company on my first outing; so if any one is still around when I get there, I'd like to join a trip.

Already done the Mae Hong Son Loop on my KTM, will definataly do it again after the meet but not sure on what. Although the KTM was fun I fancy doing it on something with even more horse power (and a smoother ride). I'm sure I saw a couple of CB 750's for rent so may try one of those for a blast, unless there are any Speed Triple's for rent!

Chiang Mai Hook up
I see more than one post for members attending the HU meeting in
chiang mai jan 14-. I am interested in hooking up for a possible ride, we can talk at the HU meeting look for Max from Canada I cannot reply personally to those posts as I have not the prerequisite minimum number of posts to qualify for that yet. Max |
You realize that those posts are from two years ago, right?

CNX to Laos
I was planning on attending the HU meeting in CNX but had to delay for two weeks. I will arrive Jan 30 to CNX and plan to ride Laos on a rented motorbike for 2-4 weeks. There are bikes to rent in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai that can be taken to Laos. If anyone is still in CNX, let me know or else possibly meet in Laos.
