Central/South America- 2013

OK, I am starting to plan WAY in advance. I suppose this is even a bit less about looking for others this far in advance as a chance for me to start my planning.

I am still not sure of the when, how long, etc. I may also do this trip in stages. I just have a few "commitments" so my trip is unlikely to begin before 2013.

Here is the roughest of outlines. I am going to leave from Denver, through Central America, down the west side of South America, to Tierra Del Fuego. Time, budget, etc., willing, I will come back up the east side through Brazil, etc.

Given the ages of my kids and my loving wife, I will most likely leave my bike in some country at some point and fly home for a "while" and come back and keep riding.

I am very excited, which is why I am starting this thread three years in advance.

We may see you on the road. I am planning on retiring at the end of 2003. If I can save enough money and economies don't fall apart then we (me and my wife) will be on the road for as long as we feel like it. We have no plans so far but we will probably go south first.
If we are not on the road and are adventerous enogh to come to Mexico City you can stay with us,

PS Thinking about the trip is what is keep me relatively sane.

Hi. I see you are down the road from me. My wife and I have rode to Colombia. We intend to finish the rest, however, in June 2011, we are heading for Europe. We have done it in stages. If you want to talk, PM me.

It's great to see others are planning their trip in the same time frame as I am. It makes makes my plans suddenly seem a lot nearer. April 2013 is the planned date for the start of our travels.

I am so glad others are like me and keeping their sanity by planning trips years in advance.

Definitely interested in talking, especially as my departure gets a little closer. Colombia is definitely on my list I had family living there for quite some time. I am also curious how the rest of your trip goes. Good luck.

Hi!

Great to see riders with the same wild ideas!
I'm from Holland, and I'm planning on flying to Anchorage and then ride to Ushaia. From there on, I think I'll ride to Buenos Aires and fly back to Holland.
Would be great to find some fellow riders to undertake this trip together!

I know I definitely would not mind meeting up with some riders along the way as well.

Friends,
Ride the South Americas would be my alternative route/plan if my ride Malaysia to the UK visit Makkah Saudi Arabia enroute next year fall apart due to the current Middle East security trends. I just wonder if it is wise to bring my own bike to S. America or rent/buy there sell after the trip? Have no problem with time ( I'm a retiree).
Any advise is most appreciated.?c?

Planning Ahead

Earl,

I have been planning since last year for my 5th SA epic trip in 2014, to combine it with the World Cup games in Brazil. 4 years planning is about what it takes to plan it well, especially as my son, my daughter, and 5 other friends will be joining me!

If you ride down the !@#$%^&* PANAMERICANA along the west coast of SA, you will miss all the good stuff! Leave the PN in Ecuador and see some of the country (and avoid the corrupt police north of Lima!). No need to ever return to the west coast! You can even check out Chile by a jump over the Paso Sico, then back over to Argentina south of Santiago.

South American trip 2013

I am planning to ride the north bank of the Amazon starting in Georgrtown Guyana then over to Bos Vista Brazil; then down to Manus. There I plan to put the bike on a boat and sail down to Macapa; then up the east coast of Brazil to French Guiana, Dutch Guiana and returning to Georgetown, X British Guyana. I am planning this is spring of 2013 and would like company. can hook up in Boa vista or Georgetown.

I too have been planning..

..my 2013 trip for over a year now. I'll be starting my solo trip from Edmonton Alberta in September of 2013. I'm hoping to meet like minded folk along the way and also exchange planning/routing ideas.

My youngest moved out of the house last week and my wonderful wife is encouraging me all the way. We hope to have a rendezvous in Belize in October giving me 4 weeks in Mexico. After that I'm still planning :mchappy:

When in 2013 are you thinking of going as I am also planning a very similar trip and would like company for part of the way or all of the way

WilderRider 3 Jan 2012 17:47

I am also thinking of heading off down that way. There is a chance I would take a shorter version or maybe the whole thing this fall (2012) as well.

seantully 4 Jan 2012 21:56

I'm heading south in fall 2012 as well. I'll be doing Alaska etc in June/July as a trial run and to meet up for the Dust 2 Dawson gathering on June 21st/22nd in Dawson City. I'm planning to head for TDF in the Fall and will be traveling with an interest in seeing the sights and getting off the beaten trail with no real time-frame (aside from making it to TDF before money runs out!). I'm an adventurous sort, like to have a good time, and am always up for something new. Optimally I would love to spend a good amount of time in South America and hopefully head out to the east coast and see some of the less traveled sights over there as well. More than happy to meet up with any other like-minded folks!

Here's another one thinking of doing the same, down on the west coast and back up on the east:D. We'll have to try to keep this thread going.

Cheers Growler
