I'm planning to leave Cape Town for Cairo in mid May - going to Namibia first then Bot, Zim and Zam, Malawi, Tanzania and then go around Vic Lake from the western side (Rwanda, Uganda and then Kenya). I'm planning to get to Nairobi in mid August. Oh, and all this on four wheels instead of two. Let's get in touch!

Vanshar we left Dbn on the 2nd Jan and have only just got to Arusha(Tanzania). Took almost the exact route as you are going to take... been a superb journey thus far. Plz make contact and let me know if we can be of any assistance re camping etc etc. would be a little measure to help a fellow traveller if possible.... the same as others helped us.
May even catchup on the road... Pole pole!!!

Finally this Thread gets allive

Hi all the three (4) of you,

good to come together here a nd share information.
I like it.

I am quite busy next few days and with low internet access again, but come back on yu with my plans. Mid May sounds good for me regarding Cape Town (CPT).

Republic of South Africa (RSA) I would do rather quick since I know it quite well, and then into Mozambique and north. I magine to stay in Tanzania a month and then Kenia and Uganda a month... crossing the Sudan after and then Egypt will be questionable ... lets see.

Would be interrested about your experiences and share some stages of travel.

Stay tuned !

Thank you so much lAbArYnth! I really appreciate it.

A few questions for now:

1) What route did you take in Tanzania and what was the road quality?
2) Are you planning to apply for Ethiopian visa in Nairobi (by sending your passport via DHL to your country)?
3) How are you going (and when) to sort out the visa for Sudan?
4) Where there any particular place/country where you were asked for bribes a lot?
5) Did you need a visa for Malawi (most people can get it at the border - i know, but being a Polish citizen i need to apply at an embassy but i think it usually takes 1-2 weeks and i can't afford to leave my passport for so long)?
6) Did you buy COMESA - if so, where have you found it?

Thanks a bunch!

We just finished most of your planned route. If you don't want to go to egypt, Saudi-Jordan-Israel then ferry to greece (Salamis) could be an option. We got our Saudi visa in Khartoum in one day (3-day transit visa).

Just an idea...
happy travels!

Southern Africa: Zero issues so far

Hi there,

After South Africa, Botswana, NorthEast Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambik now I am in Malawi. So far everything worked out by far better than expected.

In 5days i shiuld be in Daaresalam. It will be a organizing hub for 2 weeks. Waiting for visas... and visiting Zanzibar.

Where about are you in your planning, on the road ?

If you want to track my route have a look at www.FiveElementsTour.com | Trans-Africa now // Panamericana (complete) and then tracking.

Travel reports are late... since i am lazy on those... long winter nights back home will be used for that.

Stay tuned.
Roland
