Canada-Argentina
I am planning to ride from the Toronto area to the south tip of Argentina this fall and winter. My departure time is flexible, prefer mid to late October.
Anyone interested in linking up? At this point one other possible rider on a GS1200. I ride a KTM990. Peter |
Canada to Argentina
Hi Peter
I just saw your post, right on!! hitting the road to SA. I just got back to BC Canada after riding 1year 10 months from Jasper Alberta to Santiago Chile. My bike is still in Santiago, I'll be riding in November down to Ushuaia and up the East coast back up to Columbia.... maybe back to Canada! Check out my blog for photos and info for your journey. Best of luck! - Let me know if you need info, contact me via email alaindenis Cheers:funmeteryes::scooter: |
Hi Angelita
Two Kiwi's riding from Santiago, Chile,to Argentina then south in October/ November before going north to Canada. Riding two up. Let us know where you may be for a catch up. Donald |
Hi all, I'm hoping to pick up my moto in Calagary and depart there on the 4th Sep. I am thinking about calling in at the California meet at the end of Sep. then carry on south. I am looking for people to go through Central America with and would be happy to loiter in Mexico (great place) in order to join up. I also ride a 1200GS and have done this run 3 times, thats why I want to hit CA mob handed. Ride safe.
|
I am also planning a trip... leaving ottawa, canada mid oct... heading to costa rica... i've done a lot of biking through canada and the states, spent 2 weeks on a ktm in costa rica last year, but this would be the first extensive travel on a bike...

Bo Red
Blair
Any flexibility on time of departure? I had thought of crossing into Mexico in late October but would move that up to take advantage of Mike's past experience in CA. My biggest concern is my lack of Spanish therefore the difficulties I will encounter at border crossings. Peter |
i"l be leaving Vancouver ca on oct 8 for Mexico and copper canyon then on to PV before having to head back north. Still in the exact route planning stage but alot will depend on weather.
|
Omg!
It's gonna be full of us, canucks on two wheels south of our border this winter,
I will be leaving from Montréal on October 8 (give or take a couple days!) See you all on the road... Yannick |
H'mm, this interests me. I'm just a few days away from returning to Ottawa after seven weeks doing the Deadhorse run with a couple of mates. I don't do winter well in the cold any more and was planning on heading to Argentina. I ride a KLR650. Not sure whether to take that or the Ural that I'm picking up tomorrow.
I've subscribed to the thread and will stay tuned. Cheers .... Greg |
It's terrific to have several guys heading the same direction at about the same time. Are Yannick and/or Blair interested in hooking up for the ride to Mexico from eastern Canada?
It would still be possible to meet Mike in Mazatlan or on the easst coast of Mexico as he heads across to Belize. It's a bit of a pain not being able to respond directly to you as I don't have sufficient posts to my credit. Peter |
We have two threads going with the same basic group, this one and California-Argentina Leaving Early October.
It may be less confusing if all interested in linking up either went to one or the other or start a direct email contact. Departure is looming. Peter |
I think it would be great to hook up for the ride down.. seems like I have so much to plan before Oct... (i do), has anyone figured out their route thus far?
|
Canada-Argentina
Hi. Yes. I was originally thinking about Alaska to Terra del Fuego but given the way the seasons work I then decided that Toronto to Argentina late October would actually be a possibility. I am in Toronto and ride a KLR650 ('08). Just trying to see who else out there is interested in this trip.
|
Hi Guys, if anyone wants to do a meet up in Mexico towards the back end of October before hitting CA then Mazatlan old town at the Hotel Belmar would be as a good a place as any with lots of secure parking, cheap beer and they like motos. From the US/Mex border an easy couple of routes would be down the middle(ish) doing Copper Canyon if required then onto Parrill to see the statue of Pancho Villa, Durango then to Mazatlan via the Devil's spine (Espinosa de Diablo) lots of bends; or down the Baja then get the overnight ferry from La Paz direct to Mazatlan or take the shorter crossing to the place near Los Mochis and ride down Highway 15 to Mazatlan. (a cheaper option but the road is full of F1 wanabee truckers) Just a thought to set everyone off. Ride safe.

Though I have travelled in many parts of the world... I have not travelled much of central america.... been to destinations like PV and Cabo... and spent 2 weeks on a rented KTM in Costa Rica....so I do not know the most interesting routes... also, do not speak a lick of spanish... so I would be happy to travel with and put some onus on others recommended routes... (not to say relying on anyone tho).......I am researching possibilities and have heard the copper canyon is quite impressive.... Trading my Triumph 955 in on a used Vstrom 650.... love the new bmw 800... but at 19k with accessories, bit of overkill to thrash thru central america...

good idea but...

And as I don't have enough messages either, I can't PM you!!! Ride safe and keep posting... Regards, Yannick |
There are several of us with the same approximate plan and timing that seem interested in hooking up for parts or all of the ride south. We need to get together on a date and work towards it.
I live near Peterbough, Ontario, ride a KTM 990, am time and route flexible. I would be happy with either the Copper Canyon route or the Baja/ferry to Mazatlan to start. Another thread (California-South America) started by barbalace has a well experienced and Spanish fluent rider leaving LA in early October. His help could be really useful in CA. I am considering either trying to meet him for his LA departure or meeting him in Mazatlan. Peter |
Maja..
hard choices there... Copper Canyon or the baja.... I guess if mine is a return trip.... then the baja down would work and I could do copper canyon on the return.... |
Baja or Copper Canyon ?
We could't decide so we did both - Baja to Santa Rosalita and than crossed to Creel. Should't miss any of this...
Have fun.. Marcus |
In Jasper Canada

Border crossing...
Hi Albert,
crossed at Tecate about 5 weeks ago - no problem at all... cu Marcus |
Unfortunately I don't have enough posts to do the PM thing. Has much discussion been going on off-line beyond what is being noted here?
My plans are to take a leave of absence from work late October after selling a house. I have a couple of friends/neighbours who did Canada to Buenos Aires summer 2007 and London to South Africa in summer 2008 so I having been hitting them up for info, reading blogs postings, etc. (One of said friends, Tyson, won first prize the for the HU calendar in 2008). That said, at this point I am not enamoured with the prospect of riding the whole thing solo. Comments? Opinions? I'd be willing to head out to the Peterborough region for a chit chat -- my parents live around Buckhorn so the trip would be double duty ;) Adam |
Mazatlan
Hi guys, Im new on HU, but with 20 years on motorcycles, If you pass by Mazatlan you can stay at my ranch, its only 12 miles north. Next to Hacienda Las moras. ride safe

One more
I am from Vancouver but my bike is in Cancun for repair (r1200gs) as soon as it is repaired, aprox. Oct. 25 I will continue with my trip to Argentina.
Anyone interested in stoping by Cancun on or by October 25th? I can only be reached by email VictorCanada@gmail.com www.victorAdventures.BlogSpot.com :D |
Hi People, poor Peter (ind500) has had to abort the sortie for a year so I am still looking for a partner or group to traverse CA with. After a great long weekend at the California HU meet I am now in Nevada drifting, or with this wind I really should say tacking my way over to Flagstaff then south to the border. Being retired I'm flexible with time but not with spine (just made that up, maybe I really am a morning person). Give me a PM or use this means if anyone fancies a beer or chat. Ride safe.

Hi All,
I'm in Toronto planning on leaving for Mexico and Central America and likely South America after that. Leaving Nov 17th most likely. Looking to see the sites+culture, ride in mountains and light dirt trails, camp quite often, mostly avoid the larger cities (other than Mexico City to see some friends) and probably Puerto Vallarta. I'm familiar with non-bike travel in Mexico and Nicaragua and speak passable Spanish. Bo Red and Adam, it sounds like your trips leave earlier but are pretty similar - if you or anyone else is interested in meeting up in the GTA or en-route I'd be happy to hear from you. My plans are to go where ever seems good next - not to be too rigid about it. I'm on a KLR650. cheers James. my address (less the equal signs and spaces) is: y=a=l=e=t=o=w=n=f=l=a=t (at) gmail . com |
Hi Mike (maja).
We met at HU CA (Joel and Taz on the Super Sherpa 250s). We feel your pain about the wind--three days across AZ blasting in our face. We crossed today at Aqua Prieta (Douglas AZ). Heading to Parral, then Durango, then Mazatlan over the next few days (maybe many days if this wind continues). You can reach us directly at fredsuleman AT hotmail DOT com. Bye for now. Taz and Joel |
Hi Guys, I've sent you an e-mail, hope to be in the Belmar by Sunday latest. Ride safe.

CA and beyond-late October
Hullo all
I have (sofar) been through Canada (Inuvik-Nova Scotia and many ports in between) and plan to cross into Mexico around the end of October, after a brief sojourn in Europe with the good wife.I am at present in Boston. The Spanish is very much at the limited end of the spectrum. The bike is an R1200GS Adventure, which has only been down the road once on this trip.:oops2: Some company would be good on the run down south(TDF,eventually) Give me a yell. Cheers Errol |
Hi, I'm looking for a buddy(ies) to traverse C.A. I'm in Mexico at the moment drifting south. Let me know if you are interested in joining up. Ride safe.

Hullo Mike
I'll be staying with friends for a couple of days in San Antonio (23-27th Oct) and then crossing into Mexico at McAllen, though this is fluid as a mate has suggested that Neuvo Laredo might be better. My plan is to go down the Gulf coast. Cheers Errol |

Mike
Of course I am interested in hooking up with yourself and any other folks going my way. Cheers Errol |

Hi Errol, I reckon on crossing the Mex/Guatemala border around the 5/6th Nov. How does that fit in with your plans as I am still trying to put a group (2 or more) together to make the CA borders a slightly better experience. Ride safe. |
Central America
Gidday Mike
That may work. We'll talk more on this later. Cheers Errol |
