Cairo to Cape in September

Hi,

It did not really come as a big surprise but never the less.....
My buddy just decided to withdraw.
Too complex, too difficult, too far, too long, too expensive......:stormy:

Not sure yet what to do. Most likely I'll go on my own.

But hey, maybe this is the chance to team up with that fabulous person that I would have never met otherwise?

So the plan is: Leaving from Germany, via Haifa down the East route to Cape Town and back home for Christmas. And that's by motorcycle.

Drop me a line if you think it's worth chatting.

David

Hi David,

My mate and I are going the same way. Leaving from Frankfurt/Germany the very beginning of August.

Are you taking the Salamis boat to Haifa? Seams to be at the moment the only suitable option. We hope to be in Egypt middle of August (fingers crossed). Do you know when you will be in Haifa? Hopefully the "Israel no stamp" issue will work out.
We might be able to team up for the Aswam - Wadi Halfa ferry and some more of the route?

Since UNRORO is at the moment not able to service the Iskenderun - Damietta line but might be later this summer this still is an option we are considering.

We are travelling on two Africa Twins and are heading towards the Cape as well.

Cheers,

Topher

Hi. I've been considering this trip for some time though would prefer to do it with one other bike. I'd be coming from Dublin so could meet in Egypt. I'm very flexible re dates though like you would want to be back by Christmas.
I've done quite a few overland trips including South America twice so would regard myself as experienced. I think I'm pretty easy company, don't get rattled easily and can rough it. I'm 51, Irish
How much planning have you done? Presumably you're taking the classic route. Have you a view on getting through Sudan?
If it looks like this could work together maybe we could plan a skype call

hi Brain, Topher,

I'm quite surprised how much and fast feedback I'm getting here :)

since I'm on my own now I'm relatively flexible time wise, too. I'm currently rather thinking about leaving a bit earlier as soon as all the paperwork is ready which would also give some extra space before Christmas.

I'm mostly ready with the preparations pending the paperwork.

The route would be Israel, Jordan, Egypt (Sinai with a stop over in sharm for 3 days Scuba Diving), Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenia (would like to do a detour via Uganda/Ruanda) Tansania, Malawi, Sambia, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa.

Certainly all of that is pretty flexible and needs to be adjusted to what ever happens on the road.

I'm waiting for my passport to get back from the Kenia Embassy with the east Africa Visa. Next will be Sudan and Ethiopia as soon as I got my Carnet (for which I should have all paper work prepared this week)

Brian, yes sure let's have a chat on Skype. I'll send you a PM.
Topher, would be great to meet somewhere on the road even though I'm not sure I can catch up on a months delay.

Sudan? I'm not really concerned here as long as we stay away from South Sudan.
Actually more worried about the terrorist attacks in Kenia at current.

Yes, I'll be taking the Salamis Vessel. I've send Alicia a few email messages already but have not had any feedback yet - guess I need to call her some times.

Brian, how are you planing to get to Cairo?

This is my first really long trip. I did a tour to Anatolia 3 years ago (www.motorrad-tour.info - all in German but you can see the pictures). I'm 46 and gay, hope you don't mind.

Regards,
david
