Hi,

I am organising a trip from Melboune Austrailia via Brisbane, Adelaide, Oonandata track, Ayers Rock, Darwin, East Timor, along Indonesia to Malaysia & Thailand, Fly Thailand to Nepal. India, Pakistan, Iran turkey eastern Europe to Isle of Man TT early June. I am currently going alone but am keen to tie up with others at times. I am riding a F650gs. Anyone with tips, greatly appreciated. In particular, options fom Darwin to East Timor. The on to Flores and Thailand Flight to Nepal. My Caernet provider has stated I am on my own in Nepal. Is that a problem?

Oz to the Isla of Mann for late November

Hi Mark,

I'm on the trip as I speak, left Oz in April and just reached LcLead Ganj in NW India today.

Next the Manali-Leh highway then eventually Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Turkey again, Europe depending on weather as how far north, the Scotland, Ireland and Isle of Mann loop.

Options open after that.

I'm on a 2003 BMW 1150GS and the pig is a real hoot 90% and a pain 10% of the time, there is no "Best Bike" and . what you're sitting on is the best for the day.

I'm happy to offer tips and even a trip Journal if you're interested.

After Oz I covered Singapore, Thailand, Laos ( bit ) , Cambodia then Thailand again as Myanmar became a hassle after being sorted,,, Bangladesh , Bhutan, Darjeeling, Nepal East to West, then Agra and eventually here I am. 12,000km later, or 17,000km since I left home.

If you have the time see Bhutan !! I can suggest a group to help. It's the Himalayas I couldn't see from Kathmandu.

Ping a PM if you need more info.

I planned to leave Darwin to Dili about mid October 2010 and then the same route as you guys.

@Bergrider: How much did you pay for shipping to Dili? Did you go for the crated option?

Cheers,

Frank

Franconian-Would really appreciate if you let me know your route, flight/ shipping etc. How long are you planning to go for? I have planned 150 days and feel it will be tight, but thats all ill have!

Bergrider, did you go direct to Singapore? Did you fly or ship? I am very interested in your journal! May catch up at Isle of Man

Darwin and shipping

Hi Franconian,

Despite the usual great reports I had a big hassle with Perkins on the Darwin to Singapore leg, I lost weeks off the itinerary and cost twice what airfreight would have due to lost, rescheduled and re-routed -flights and un-budgeted accomodation in expensive cities - waiting.

I got lucky I guess.

No need to crate as most companies roll-on into containers with other loose cargo, check shippers near your ports as I found 2 shippers in Brisbane who do similar.

Crates are mainly for air-freight, like I needed from Bankok ( on fire at the time ) to Dhaka as Myanmar was open then closed.

Send a PM ( with your email address !) - and I can forward my Journal if you like.

Both please make sure you have ALL your visa's sorted before you leave OZ, many places won't give you one at the border, only from home, also note the Indian govt has restrictions on entry / re-entry and also a Foriegner Registration system in place - many things to learn and part of the fun.

Cheers

Frank.
