Atlantic route update...?

I still plan to head south near the end of october. I am giving myself 4 months and will be totally flexible with the route I take. (Subject to great ideas)
Is anyone going around this time, anyone been delayed?
I am going solo on an old XL600. Anyone keen to share a few miles, a cup of coffee, a few ideas before departure...? I think I meant beer, not coffee.
Anyone going to the meeting who is doing this route?
Anyone???

I'm going Europe to SA through the atlantic route around the 1'st of November. I'll be going solo on a brand new xt660r (due to be delivered tomorrow...yay). Allthough I haven't planned a detailed itinerary for the trip (don't think you can plan a trip like this in detail) I have set my country list as follows: Europe-->Morocco-->Mauritania-->Mali-->Burkina Faso-->Benin (possibly via Togo since I know a fellow dane who has a farm there)-->Nigeria-->Cameroon-->Gabon-->The two Congos-->Angola-->Namibia-->SA-------------->airfreight/ship back to Denmark. I used to live in Botswana when I was a child, so I would definately want to go there. But I don't know if I am going there from Namibia and then down south to SA, or visiting it on the way back from SA, only time will tell.

As this will most likely be a once in lifetime trip for me (at least with respect to it's duration, 6 months) I may attempt going back through the eastern route. But this depends solely on how good time I will be making on the way down.

I think you and I should exchange mail adresses and talk/write more over the summer. I think we can complement each other with ideas about such practicalities as visas, money, fuel, etc. I'll send you a PM with my mail address.

Seeing as our departure dates are fairly close together, I'd think it likely that we should bump into each other along the way. And yeah, lets share a few miles, a bordercrossing or a cup of coffee somewhere in Africa.

Probably find loads of people heading down there at that time of year, many of whoom won't have been on this site or even know about it.

I'll be leaving a week before Xmas on a yellow CCM, if anyone spots it, heading Mauri, Mali, Senegal.

Hey orrin,

We are on the road at the moment, and will be heading to Cape Town down the west side between October and February. We will be in Morocco somewhere near the end of September.

We are currently rotting in Europe, Italy to be exact.. we sporadically update our website Going Somewhere, have a read, it might give you reason to avoid us!!

Would be good to meet up and cover some miles together, same goes for anyone else reading this.

Almeria to Nador - Sept 21st

Hi everyone,

We are in Almeria, catching a ferry to Nador tomorrow. We will be in Morocco for a few weeks, with probably a week around Ouarzazate since we have some things to sort out there.

We are headed for Mauri, Senegal, Burkina, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria and the usual route south.. though we are open to options, maybe Niger instead of the Ghana, Togo, Benin run.. who knows.

See you on the road, feel free to email if you want to meet up somewhere.

Happy travels,

Dan and Linz

Africa north to south Atlantic route

I'm leaving the UK on the 30th of September on a 1200GS heading down to South Africa via the west coast route although I'll be crossing to the east coast once I'm sub Sahara, very flexible. Traveling solo although I've had some contact with other guys doing the same trip.

I've got a rough route for the first half of the trip but not the second. I'm keen to get off the beaten track and ride with anyone who's up for it. I'll be in Morocco around the second week of October.

Looking forward to meeting up with you,

Michael
