April 2015 UK - Cape Town

Heading down the West coast of Africa then down the middle ending at Cape Town about 4 months later.

Get in touch if you want to meet up somewhere along the way. I want to travel mostly alone but there are a few places where I would appreciate a travel companion (DRC in particular).

John
Planning the same trip. Would be good to exchange plans. I'm going by motorbike and hopefully a mate travelling with me by bike also. Have you decided on your route? Have you got a quote for a carnet?

Hi Brian. My route is on my web site www.john-barrett.uk/africa . Currently i am keeping an eye on the nigeria/cameroon border as this is officially closed at the moment although some have got through over Christmas. I have decided no carnet as not planning on Egypt. When do you start?

Hey John,

leaving Portugal later this month heading to SA via west coast on a XT600E.
Travelling slow, so we might catch up somewhere along the way - maybe DRC.
Are you planing on doing Kinshasa - Lubumbashi?

Cheers,
Rui Nuno

John I can tell you that there has been 3 people cross the border now. One by the main route and the others by a rough track.

Lets just hope that with what has happened this week that it does not change.

Hey Rui,

Are you in Morocco yet?

Im just north of Rabat. Been getting visas sorted. How many people do you know that are doing DRC?

My whole trip is planned around doing that section of Africa ( Kinshasa - Lubumbashi)

Hoping we might be able to catch up in Morocco for a beer before we both head further south.

Patrick.

Planning to go either April or Septmeber. I have to back to Ireland by end of June so not sure if April gives me long enough. Lots of people say 3 months is ok for west route. I'm travelling with a mate, both on DR 650's. We've done a big trip together before (South America) and didn't kill each other.
Are you going to the adventure travel show in London this weekend? If so we could grab a coffee

Hey Patrick,

still in Europe and runing a bit late.
Planing on leaving month end/first week Feb.
Would have to check my notes but off the top of my head I think there's about 3 or four of us heading south for DRC.
I don't plan on staying long in Marroco and will probably head straight to Mauri, so we might catch up somewhere along the way.
When are you heading south?

Cheers,

I've just done it on a bicycle.. Well almost, 60 miles from Cape Town now.

Nigeria Cameroon caused me problems and had to switch sides from Burkina Faso to Kenya.

My routes on the track my tour page of my site and a friend on a motorbike and another in a land cruiser containerised their vehicles to Walvis Bay.

Good luck with your trip and have a blast!

Its looking like ill be back in Morocco to collect my bike and continue south in June. Bit of a bummer but could work out well because the ebola counties might be open by then all going well.
