April 2010: Europe -> Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India
Hi, I planned to go with my mate to go to Asia in April – June. Unfortunately my mate had to cancel the trip. Are there any others with the same destination & timing? For your info I ride a Yamaha Tenere (3AJ). I look forward to your reply. Arnout |
Hi Arnout,
My plan is to go to from Europe to Sri Lanka (or most Southern part of India) around September 2010. I'm not sure yet whether to do it on bike or van. Open for suggestions or collaborations. Bram |
I'm thinking about Europe-India starting from the UK in late August or early September. Route wise I'm thinking about running down through eastern Europe and into Turkey-Iran-Pakistan-India, having said that the route is still on the back of a fag packet!!
After India, no plans, I'm planning on spending about a year on the road in total. happy to link up and swap ideas with you guys. Bramd, where are you? |

Hi guys,
Thanks for your postings. Recently I read that in April the weather in Turkey (heavy rain) and Iran (freezing up to -15 degrees) is not so comfortable to travel by bike, so I decided to postpone my journey. I might join some other HU bikers around August. @ Bartosz, thanks for your offer if the timing was different, I might had join your trip. Have nice journey anyway. @ Seb, cool plan J, where are you at the moment? Still in Australia or already in Europe? Send me a message so we can discuss some ideas. grt, Arnout |
Hi guys,
I'm a Canuck living in north london. I've been thinking about and roughly planning a trip from the UK to India (ideally like to get over to SE Asia or even Oz depending on logistics) departing some time this summer. I'm flexible on dates and route. Really just looking for a bit of an adventure. * Arnout & Seb (or anyone planning a similar trip), would like to hear more about your plans - sounds similar to what I'm looking to do. Where are you guys? Mike |
Hi guys,
That's great!! I am in Italy and I am planning a very similar trip. Italy, turkey, iran, pakistan and india up to ladakh. I thought of leaving end of april/may, I am now checking against the weather. I am flexible in dates and route. I would not leave too late as the road to ladakh close in mid september. Arnout, Seb and Mike it seems we have pretty much the same ideas. To tell you the truth I am a bit worried of Pakistan, I might consider to send the bike from iran to india. Stefano |

Hi guys,
Just been reading through this post. My wife and I are leaving the UK on 2 XT's at the end April and heading down through Europe to Turkey, Iran before heading through the Stans and then Pakistan. We're already planning to meet up with others from the hubb to share costs for the crossing across China (via Kashgar) to getus to the top of the KKH. We'd be looking to enter China on the 18th August if that's of interest to any of you? |
Hi Bobduro,
can you let me know your itinerary with dates? thanks Stefano |
Hi Stefano
We're leaving London on the 26 April and heading down through Europe towards Croatia, Bulgaria and on to Istanbul. We then intend to do a tour of Turkey before crossing into Iran and travelling round Iran before heading up to Turkmenistan, Uxbekistan and Krygyzstan. While planning for this trip it quickly became obvious that it was going to be very hard/ pointless in trying to predict our timing as ultimately, we don't really know HOW long we'll spend in each place (I've always found when travelling that most of my favourite places have been places I've found my chance, not necessarily places i've planned. We want to make sure we're free to explore and take any unplanned opportunities as they arise. The result of this is that we have no real schedule other than being in Eastern Kyrgyzstan to meet up with hubbers so we can enter China on 18th August. Some people spend hundreds of hours planning every day of their trip, the problem with that is it only takes one unplanned thing (no matter how small) to comletely throw the itinery into chaos, leaving that person with a choice:- forget the entire itinery or race to catch up and put the itinery back on track (missing lots of things alonf the way). Given how many 'unpredictable' things can happen on an overland trip I don't see the point in tempting fate. We've always travelled without any real plan, we ride when we want and stop when we've had enough. Granted that was in Europe, but I don't see why we should change. I know that this doesn't really answer your question but in all honesty we just know/have an itinery. If you have any questions though feel free to ask! |
Hi guys,
Thanks for your postings! @ Paul (Posset) and @ Stefano (Fiorinis) > my plans are postponed so I won’t make it in April. Have a great and safe journey! @ Bobduro great plan, as far as I planned now, my route will be along the south so hooking up is no option for me. Are you gonna blog your travel experiences somewhere? In that case I would like to ‘follow’ you. Have a great safe and journey! |
London to India Overland Summer 2010?
Hi everyone,
I'm planning to make the epic journey from London to India overland in a few months' time (anytime after July) and was wondering if anyone here (preferably a female biker/foot passenger) is thinking of doing something similar to join me? It's a shame that my friends either don't have the money or can't take the time off work, but I end my current job in July and then the world is literally my oyster (until I run out of money, too)! As far as research goes, I have done quite a bit, using various websites (including this forum) and particularly the legendary seat61. I'm quite flexible with regards the actual journey, but I'd be travelling on a budget. Would like to spend a few nights in various European cities along the way, but not for too long as it's the deerest leg of the trip! In India I am planning to spend a good couple of months, as I'd like to explore the whole country. The general route would be Europe (various - Turkey) - Iran - Pakistan (I can speak Urdu fluently, which would be very helpful here) - India About me: Open-minded, adventurous, great company and I'm a recent History graduate from London, U.K. Any advice/takers would be much appreciated/most welcome! In good faith, Parv |
Hi Parv,
I'm interested in joining in this trip to India, later I like to go further to Nepal. Can you contact me if you are interested? kind regards, Arnout |

I am seeking for other travellers either with or without their vehicles in order to travel together (especially in the Iranian Beluchistan and in Pakistan). Let me know. |

East to West 2010

My experience late last year was in the East to West direction, at the start of the Pakistan floods. Like Mark said not a lot of fun BUT I'd still do it again. I don't have a blog nor Trip report here ( can't work out how to download Word documents to the pages ) but happy to help with questions, GPS info and Journals. Ping a PM. My trip started from Newcastle in Oz and finished in Amsterdam. ( Fingers crossed to do the Artic Circle this year !) Cheers and ride-safe !! Bergrider |
London to Istanbul (April/May)

I'm heading in a similar direction to you for part of this trip. I will be taking the Eurotunnel on 24 April, then riding France-Switzerland-Italy (Ancona)-Greece (Igoumenitsa)-Turkey. I am thinking of returning via Bulgaria-Serbia, but as you say, an open itinerary is easier to control. Aside from aiming for the ferry on 27 April, I don't have any other fixed dates, so hopefully we could meet at some point. Karl |
