Anyone plans to cross China (Kyrgystan-Nepal) July 2016?
Kindly note by now the trip will rather start in September due to heavy rains in July/August
Hi guys, We are preparing our trip from Europe to Korea next year. In July 2016 we plan to cross China from Kyrgystan to Nepal by the southern route in Tibet. We think of a period of 3 to 4 weeks. Currently we are seeking quotes from some travel agents. We are a Swiss couple (58 and 59 years old) driving our Landcruiser Prado. As our car is not really equipped for cold or wet camping we plan to stay in GH, hotels, etc. As fixed costs to transit China/Tibet are still quite high we are looking for some more vehicles to share them. Happy to hear from anybody on the same or similar route. |
Hi... yes, am looking at a China crossing at about that time, on the same route. I'm riding East Africa now (in Rwanda at the moment) and aim to be in Turkey by April to head east. Let's keep in touch! :cool4:

Hi,
great journey, enjoy Rwanda! Actually still seeking quotations for China crossing. Heard in the meantime that Nepali border might not be open by then. Hence, looking for alternatives as well: leaving China through Myanmar. Anyway, we'll stay in touch. Save journey! |

Cross China
Dear All,
thanx for your replies. By now we have contacted 4 travel agents. They largely confirm that the border to Nepal is currently closed due to the earthquake. Nevertheless, they're quite optimistic that normality will resume by April 2016. Knowing a little bit bureaucracy in these places we decided to open an alternative: Kirgistan to Myanmar should Nepal fail. Consequently we slightly had to change the schedule because of heavy rains in Eastern Tibet until end of August (all travel agents strongly advised not to visit the eastern parts of Tibet in the rainy season). Currently we plan to enter China beginning to mid September for a transit of 25 - 30 days to Nepal, or if not possible a few days more to Myanmar. In the meantime we received several offers for both options in China with a variable number of cars. For the part in Myanmar we're still exchanging mails and searching more agents. All still interested in travelling together may of course receive their offers from us. Cheers |
Hi moma,
we are a french couple travelling with a 4x4 truck and would also like to cross from Kirghizistan to Nepal in september 2016 ( or Laos or elsewhere, depends on the border... ) Have you found other travellers ? We would be interested to share this travel with you Cheers, Isabelle |
Hi Isabelle,
Wellcome. As there still are no news about the opening of the Nepali border we are currently following 2 options: either Torugart to Kathmandu or Torugart to Myanmar, taking the southern route passing by Mt. Kailash. As we will proceed to Laos later on to travel again thru China to reach Mongolia, we prefer Nepal. If not possible Myanmar to be able to see more of South East Asia. We intend to start in Kirgistan beginning to mid September - later on it might be pretty cold in Tibet. Our quotations for an approx. travel of 3 weeks are around US$ 6200 to 10000 to Nepal and 7100 to 12000 to Myanmar for 2 cars / 4 pers. Currently we have 4 quotations. Either way, we did not continue to search intensively for fellow travellers, as news about the border situation in Nepal should come out in March. However, we are very interested in finding additional People to reduce costs! Meilleures salutations Monika & Martin |
Hi Moma !
What is the route in Myanmar ? Which travel agencies are you in touch with ? Do you think one is better ? Cheers, Isabelle |
Myanmar
Hi Isabelle,
we just got a few offers from agents in Myanmar to check the feasibility to cross from China into Thailand. We have asked for a 2 weeks trip, covering the main sights: Lashio, Mandalay, Bagan, Inle Lake, Naypyidaw, Yangoon, Golden Rock. We didn't discuss the itineraries yet. Agents are BurmaSenses, Mutu, Brightviewtravel. Some others didn't answer. Cost are 4500 to 6800 USD for 2cars/4 persons. Of this, some 1000 to 1500 USD are deductible if the group can host the guide and the government official in their cars. Currently we have no preference, except their prize. As our 1st priority remains Nepal, we did not go any further than this. We are expecting a confirmation on the situation at the Nepal border in March or April. Cheers Martin |
Hi Monika and Martin,
crossing Myanmar will increase the price a lot and we won't be able to follow this option ! If the Nepal border is not open, we would choose the way to Laos, without Myanmar Cheers, Isabelle. |
Hi Isabelle,
so let's check on how to continue once we have an answer to the situation at the Nepal border. cheers Martin |
Hi everyone bier
My boyfriend and I are planning to cross Kyrgystan-China-Pakistan via Karakoram in late Oct or early Nov 2016. I don't know if you'd be interested in teaming up to share the costs? We are already in touch with a tour operator through China (4 days) but have not made any fixed agreements yet. We are by Volkswagen van. Best regards, Mia |
Hi Mia,
we're rather planning the trip on the Southern Tibet route to Nepal or Myanmar. I'm not to enthusiastic on crossing the whole northern part of the Indian subcontinent as e already know this area quite well. Cheers Martin |
