Anyone in Morocco right now?

hey there,

i'm in ouarzazate at the moment, having ridden down from the UK on my XR400. my riding buddy just flew home after his bike died with some terminal engine damage, so i'm looking for some company...

i was thinking of spending a bit of time in morocco before heading down the west coast to mauritania, senegal etc but i'm pretty flexible about where i'm going. if anyone's nearby, or heading in this direction, and wants to meet up, give me a shout

cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick I'm currently on the French/Spanish border heading south - looking to be in Morroco in 4/5 days - riding slowly on an Enfield heading down to Cape Town - would be great to meet up for a while - will be back on a PC in Southern Spain if you want to contact me or you can email me on robreznik@hotmail.co.uk if thats easier
cheers

Rob

Hi Nick,
I´m still in Spain at the moment but want to leave this week. I intend to do the haul down to Mauri as quick possible ´cause i know Morri. Maybe we can meet up later? Good luck.

Yep, I´ve got the trusty KLR more or less in the shape I want it. Looks like I´ll try to bug out from Valencia on Friday, go direct to Rabat and pick up Mauri visa mon/tuesday then just head south. I might do the old the Banc d Arguin track or head east to Atar. See how things work out. Ultimately I´m heading to Sierra Leone for Xmas with friends then following the coast to DRC then cutting across to the east coast. That is the rough plan at least.
Will be moving reasonably quickly, due to work commitments. Kenya the end of Feburary???? or maybe March.

seems like this might work out...

my mate actually got his bike fixed in the end, so I should be meeting up with him again tonight. But cos of the delay he can only stick around for a week or so now, so I think we're gonna mess around riding in the mountains and dunes here before he heads home and I head south some time next week.

cam - your timings sound good to me, cos I'm planning to head home before christmas, probably from dakar.

orrin - sounds like you're leaving just a couple of days later, so that could also work. do you know what route you're taking?

keep in touch, cheers
nick

hey guys,

I'm planning to get to rabat on monday night and then sort out visas for mauri, and maybe mali. Cam, if you're still planning to be there at the same time do you wanna meet for a beer or something and chat about travel plans?

cheers,

Hi Nick - I'm still in Sanlucar ( north of Cadiz) waiting for the parts - looks like monday before they will come - went for a pee this morning, parked outside a cafe, went back out after 2 minutes and entire contents of both panniers gone!!! - this was in front of people drinking coffee outside! nobody knew or wanted to know anything - I'm well pissed off - surely I cant be expected to take everything with me all the time or is this the price to pay for being on your own - I need to calm down but at the moment am not sure whether to carry on or go back home

Chin-up

Hi Rob
Been following your, trip am very sorry to hear of your bad luck, for what it's worth I'd change places with you NOW rather than be stuck at work in England in the cold!
Things can and will get better, while feeling 'down' try and hook up with someone else for awhile, but try and carry on with the trip.
All the best

That's terrible, did they force the locks? Surely someone must have seen it happen, perhaps if you make enough fuss with the locals you might get the less valuable bits back.

that's really shit, hope you didn't lose anything completely irreplaceable. luck doesn't seem to be on your side at the moment. i'm sure most of us on here wouldn't think twice about leaving panniers unattended for a couple of minutes

i think about half my stuff has been lost/stolen/broken/set on fire over the last few weeks, i've found that if you only replace what you really need then it's surprising how much lighter you can travel, which makes things easier. hope you manage to get things sorted and carry on with the trip.
