Having come back from a UK to Cape Town run in Feb we spent alot of time saying "would it be possible to get through here on a sportsbike". We came to the conclusion that 95% of our journey was spent on surfaced road and attemptable with a sportsbike. Whilst the open desert roads would be irresistable, the animals and potholes of africa would make it a scary prospect! We settled for a kamakazi dash from UK to Dakar, for example, as a real prospect. Challenging, fast and exciting.

Think I'll just get back to planning my RTW trip instead:thumbup1:

Which model you got? I've an 98 FZS (the original!) and am considering sodding off on it, and am wondering what mods (if any!) you've done to it for the long distance. So far, mods on mine are limited to Hagon springs and shock.

Don't suppose anybody knows off hand if any dual-sport tires will fit - I'm thinking of a Pan-American trip.
