Amazing Adventure - Mexico to Central America Feb/Mar 2016

I have been working on one of the items that has been on my bucket list. My 2016 Central America Adventure Trip. I am looking for additional riders to join me. It doesn't have to be the whole trip. Meet me somewhere and ride for a week.

I would like to leave approximately Monday, February 15, 2016 from Leon, Guanajuato Mexico. The countries that I plan to visit are Guatamala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras and Belize. I am looking at a 30 to 45 day trip. I am really on no set time frame but don't want to do 500 mile days. I will stay in hotels and in the tent in National Parks and on the beach. I don't want this to be a brutal trip.

I will be riding a 2016 Vstrom XT with aluminum panniers and top case. I plan on bringing a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, hammock and cooking supplies. I also plan on having riding clothes, rain gear and 2 sets of clothes.

Some of you guys don't know this but I was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer 2 1/2 years ago and by the grace of God and modern medicine I am in remission. It has been a horrible time but I am thankful that I have learned so much about myself and what is now important to me. It no longer is about the money and saying I will accomplish it someday. Things can change in the blink of an eye!! If this is something that you have always wanted to do, don't put it off. Ask the boss for the time and beg, borrow and steal to make it happen. You can't really can't take it with you and it will have you remembering for the rest of your life all of the memories.

I am a 47 year old red blooded American who resides between Mexico. Los Angeles and Phoenix. Please offer suggestions on places to see, where to stay and what to do. Everything is truly appreciated. I am scouring the boards, libraries and internet finding all the information I can. You can also contact me at lifeofanadventurer@yahoo.com. I also have the domain lifeofanadventurer.com and will be putting something up in the next few weeks.

Goodcat, where abouts in Alberta are you? I'm leaving around the same time from Spruce Grove.

Pure curiosity

Being from Edmonton I am wondering about your logistics for getting from Spruce Grove or Calgary down south to a point that will be reasonable for biking. Are you going to truck your bikes south and find a place to leave the truck or perhaps freight the bike. Just wondering

In November 2012, I hauled my GS in the back of my truck, parked the truck at a storage facility in Phoenix, rode for two months, then hauled it back. I'm looking at renting a U-haul for a one way trip to rideable weather then riding back home in the spring. Plan "B", my son's offered to haul me down south, I also might have found a shipper tht might be able to haul the bike to Phoenix AZ, just haven't heard back yet. Just a couple of options for the moment, Robert.

Please contact when driving through Mexico

Let me know when you are in the Guanajuato, Mexico area. I will buy you dinner and beer at Gringo Teriyaki. The best teriyaki restaurant in all of Mexico. Also let me know when you are down this way because I may ride with you. Safe travels.

Central America late Feb/March/early April

Mark - Just returned from four months of riding in Europe in mid Nov. Have been working on my 2016 Adventure schedule and wanted to include Central America in my spring schedule as the rest of the year is getting booked fast. Have a few feeling out but would be interested in hearing more about your adventure. Not sure what I would ride (have choices). Have only traveled alone recently as I stopped working a few years ago and most riding colleagues still work. I decided I was not waiting for them to retire for me to start adventuring, they will just have to catch up. I like the combo camping, hoteling plan. Hope to hear from you.

Myself and pax maac enjoyed Mark's great hospitality yesterday at Gringo Teriyaki.
Great food and good company.
You missed an awesome ride today mate - I suppose somebody has to work occasionally.

Mark,

I will be leaving Calgary Mid of March or sooner if snow melts before...

I'm planing to go through US, cross the border in El Passo, go South to Guatemala, El Salvador, as my wife will fly to San Salvador and from there up to Panama City where I'll ship my BMW R1200GS by plane to Bogota. From Bogota, Quito, Machu Picchu, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentine. Returning by the Pacific up to Bogota or Cartagena, and Central America.

It will be nice if we can keep in touch and possibly ride couple miles together. I'm a survivor... had a heart attack and stent... so life is good and many dreams to accomplish.

It will be the trip of my life. You are right! don't let for tomorrow what we can do now!

Cheers

John
