Africa west coast, southbound, Mid-late Nov 2016 -- Car seeking others
Hello!
My wife and I shipped our car (Subaru Outback, with some mods) from NYC to UK, and are currently playing in Europe. We plan to cross Spain to Morocco and heading to Cape Town. Our plans are completely flexible/changeable, as is our timeline. Our intent is a mix of campgrounds, airbnb, or hotel depending on our comfort levels. We tend not to camp generally. This is our first African tour, and we were curious if there were others on the route to link up with. We have a selection of tools, spares, and will haul extra petrol - we have lots of room for your spares/etc, and would prefer to travel in larger numbers in case of issues. Though I'd throw it out there. Please feel free to PM me on here if you'd like to link up and share the ride for all, part, or a little bit of the trek -- and if you're within a few weeks, we may be able to change our plans to match. Cheers, Mike |
Hi Mike,
Not heading as far south as you, but I'm heading down to Morocco next weekend for 6 weeks and would be happy to hook up if your there at the same time. I'm in a Black UK Landcruiser and this will be my 6th trip to Morocco in it. Could certainly show you round some of the interesting off road bits and tourist sites. Cheers Mark |

me and my wife will travel from Morocco to west Africa from End of december with our Toyota Land Cruiser with the same ideas that you have it. Let us know where you will be at beginning of January (we will reach Dakar on 10th of january with a organized trip) and why not to meet each others and travel together Best regards Piero |
Same here, I'm taking a 7 seater Mercedes work van to Cote d'Ivoire, probably leaving just before or just after Xmas.
Know the road, have lots of room on the flat bed at the rear & speak French. I won't be going on many (if any) detours, but might see you en route? |
Hi Mike,
How are you plans going? I'm on a motorbike and currently in Dakar...here for a week or two then onto Ghana for another 2 week break...so might cross into Nigeria start/mid November...not so keen to cross Nigeria solo...also not doing a lot of camping! Let me know if you will be around any other those times and want to meet up... Cheers, Will |

We ended up with a paperwork delay.. just bought tix for the Morocco ferry for the 28th of Nov, so I think we're a bit behind ya. (we're roughing it in Barcelona at the moment :) ) Would LOVE to convoy Nigeria if the timing works out, or pick your brain if you made it through. We're planning appx 1 week apiece for Morocco, Ghana, and maybe another for Togo/Benin. We plan to "jam" through both Mauri and Nigeria, so the timing miiiiight just work out! |
Crossing Mauretania in about 10 days (heading south)
Hi all,
We are a family of four driving from Sweden to southern Africa in a 4x4. Start mid October 2016 and plan to spend until end of July 2017. Currently in Morocco. Will make a quick drive across Mauretania in about 10-14 days and would love to convoy Mauretania with someone. Mike How are your travelling going? Passed Morocco yet or interested in convaying Mauretania? Paul/Jan If our paths cross ot would be nice to meet and exchange experiance over a cold beer (we have something a motorbike is missing, a fridge:-) ). |

We learned today is a muslim holiday, so will start our Visa collections tomorrow instead of today. Our next stops are Guinea-Conakry, Cote d'Ivoire, then Burkina, then Togo. Since we're on a VTE we will not do Ghana (which is a bit of a shame) -- will try to get Nigeria visa here or in Ouga. DRC I think in Cotonou? It's in my notes. If the elections in DRC go sour, we don't really have a good plan to avoid it. We'd likely turn north, or try to ship the car somewhere from W. Africa. |
