Which are useful apps for the road?

Just bought a new, if out-dated, little iPad to use as a platform on the road.

Netflix is already installed so that's taken care of, but generally are there any apps you recommend installing purely from a practical standpoint?

This will be our alternative to a laptop on trips.

With kids in tow, said trips will most likely be in Europe for now if that makes any difference.

So which apps do you recommend downloading and why?

Exactly what you need:

After travelling over 100`000 Kilometers in the last years (Transafrica, Southamerica, US, Europe) , with just an iPad / iPhone as Navigation Unit - I found some Apps very helpful.

Here are my favorite Apps - and the reason why they are important for me:

We did also discuss about shortly about here:

I use Yr.no and Windy apps for weather. ViaMichelin for general route planning (and paper maps) for Europe. Also, I use Maps.me for offline mapping and I find it good for when on foot too. Park4Night is great for wild camping locations.
