I've posted here before, but having given it some thought...
There is a part of me that would enjoy leaving home to go to work, from work going home... and simply not take the final turn, but to ride past and carry on... no plan, no place to go, only me, my bike, whatever I'm waring that day and whatever is in my pockets, the road and the adventures ahaed, sorting things out as I go... and just go and be gone until the world spits med out the other end with a different shirt on my back, different stuff in my pockets, riding god knows what... Wow, what an adventure that would be. Too bad I lack the will not to make that turn... |

Passport Credit card. My tablet would be nice as it has a lot of stuff. There are shops on the road. |

Things are a lot differant know than in my younger days, 60 odd years ago, met an older guy who showed me is little tin of emergancy items, a pice of string, 2 matchs and striker, 4 rubber bands, paper clips, toilet paper, and a peg, I did make my own up simeler to his,
today, after sleeping bag cooking stuff some food and water, head torch, cable ties duck tape debit card, (will never have a credit card) flint and striker. one last item I always have with me is a pocket knife. we do have a 4x4 but have lerned that now to not take a lot of stuff and bring back a lot of stuff never used. |

Water Hard to narrow it down to simply 5 items, as I start to list things in my head from my "normal" gear.. however I'm happy to say over the past year I've been pairing down and continue too.. this thread is a good reminder to continue to lighten the load... :thumbup1: |
I pulled up this thread because I am starting over, lost motorcycles and all gear in a fire week ago. Lots of good advice here. My list will be things I have forgot and had to find on the road.
1 Small hand saw, cut wood for fire- make splint for broken part- make crutch when kick stand fails. will never leave with out me little saw again. 2. 1/4 inch chisel, will get most broken bolts out by pounding in a left hand circle, practice this before you leave home if you have not done it before. 3. Hammer, to beat it all back into shape once you do the unscheduled get off and to pound on #2 above. I just bought a hatchet with a saw in handle to take care of two items, will need to order another now. 4. Volt ohm meter, if you know how to use one especially using voltage drop reading lots of issues can be solved. 5. Soldering iron, small pen like unit runs on butane. Have fixed a lot of stuff on the road (normally accessories or their power cords). Well that is my list so best get back to making out the big list of what I need to replace. Bob |
I think my list would be dependant on where and how long I'm on the road. Not yet being a RTW type:
2-4 weeks in Canada and the US: 1. mini leatherman-ish thang 2. iphone and 12v charger (that counts as one) 3. credit card and some cash 4. pneumatic pump 5. heated vest In Baja (my only other substantial experience): s/credit card and some cash/credit card and some cash and a fake wallet/ Of course rain gear, tent. sleeping bag .... TP, ASA/Ibupropen, Redbull I can find along the way |

Well...1/ Musical Instrument...either concertina or a couple of Harmonica's ..maybe G and D.
2/ My Kermit chair 3/ I-Pod with headphones and Kindle 4/ my Garmin Zumo 660 and paper maps 5/ My Ultra Lite Mesh Cot ...after many years of Bicycle Touring when Lida and I were 25 years younger, I have thoroughly enjoyed the advances in technology and how much easier these advances have made the whole camping experience. We still use either a Whisper Lite Multi Fuel stove or a Trangia metho stove. Our Thermo Rests and pillows still work (on top of the new Cot's) and I have finally upgraded tents ...again. Mostly, for the two of us I use a Nomad (Redverz) tent with a huge 'garage' where we can stand up and store all our panniers and stuff. (it also fits in the 2 Cots). Recently, I purchased a Macpac 'Appollo' for use on my own. Its a much more 'civilised' world now!. Rod. |

2) iPod gotta have tunes 3) Tube of Vegimite 4) Favriote riding jacket 5) Ear Plugs Would like to add another one for when travelling overseas Lolly pops for kids when riding thru small villages it's always a winner....did l mention Coffee....:thumbup1: |
