Hi,
Just to add few words to say that we did that trip last year with a 4x4 so it was easier for us than for you of course. But it was really a great experience that we never forget. Now that we are back home, now we really got the blues !
In your post you tell that you take Lariam, it can be a good reason to feel a bit depressed and sometimes very tired. If you want to know more, you can read a post on the subject here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000089.html
As the others said, follow the rythm of the country not the one you planned and i would suggest not to drive at night for your safety, above all with a bike.
I found people on the West Road very kind and very nice except on the touristic places where you can feel oppressed but maybe it was easier for us because we are french !
Just keep on !
You've got a lot of wonderful places and people to discover and with no doubt you will feel a lot of magic moments you can ever imagine now !
So good trip and don't be too hurry to get to South Africa,

Nadine

Hey,

Just noticed this thread popped up again. Well...it's 5 months later and I'm in Chad! Spent a bit of time in Ghana (taking a holiday from travelling is a great idea, plan it in), then up Benin to Niger. Riding through Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon to Chad reminded me a lot of the bad roads before. Better this time though, more relaxed and properly confident that the bike is good enough. Also not taking Larium any more.

My answer to my original question:

1) take a holiday from travelling if it becomes a grind
2) slow down, less miles per day
3) regular rest days off the bike
4) just get a grip man, you don't have to work in an office!

safe riding,
Doug

Hi Dougie

Glad to hear you have bounced back and feeling much better.

I always allow a few days away from my bike when travelling long distances. After about 2 days can't wait to get back on it to move to the next place.

I also find that a good breakfast sets me up for the day too.

Cheers

Julio
