US Coast-to-Coast trip, May 2002

I'm planning on riding my Honda Pan European (ie ST1100) across the US from coast-to-coast in May 2002, from say Seattle down to Texas, across to Florida, then up the New England. My plans are going well, with piles of AAA maps and books to browse over, however I cannot seem to find a comparativelt cheap way of shipping my bike over to the West Coast from the UK, and from the East Coast back again.

Any advice out there?

Have any Brits done this trip before; I'd like to hear from them.

Many thanks. Great website, found almost by chance.

I have met several people from Europe on bikes in the western US. A Moto-Guzzi culb from the Netherlands who shipped 70 bikes in a container to Texas. Several Germans who have flown with there bikes from Frankfort to Toronto and Vancouver. With out a large group it might be difficult to find space for one bike in somebody else's container.
I think Luftansa will fly you and your bike on the same plane to Canada. I don't know if other airlines do that or not.

Since I posed this questions, my plans are now almost settled. In fact, I've gone into it in detail in my website http://communities.msn.co.uk/USCoast...rcycleTrip2002
Have a look and please feel free to comment.

You're going to love that trip.

I did the reverse in the dead of winter (not recommended) on a transalp a few years ago (2000). Boston to Memphis in December; Memphis, New Orleans, side trip to Mexico, then up the western seaboard to Vancouver in January.

My only concern is a small bike on American interstates; a transalp with a 150kg of rider and gear got tossed around on occassion.

Enjoy the trip.
