Silly things you've forgottern to take with you...

.... just read the amazing list of kit that Michael and Ken are taking on their trip down to the equator

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-of-doom-31849

and it occurred to me with the advice being given to 'strip down and take less'... what's the silliest thing you've left behind.

On my little run down through France, Spain and Morocco I forgot to take a side stand puck - perfect for those French grassy camp sites and the soft sand of Morocco! DOH!

Oh, and while we are on the subject of stuff we have forgot....... I left my wife behind at a service station on the M6, didn't notice for 45 minutes..... BOY WAS SHE MAD when I did turn up!

You WHAT!!!!! :eek3:

That has to be the best way to get permission to bugger off on a RTW for a few years.... :innocent:

Beer can tip.... now there's a thought.... I'll have to add beer to my kit list - don't think I'll forget that.

Socks! Left my socks and tense shoes one time. My little stove another time. Tent pegs, dryed food, ear plugs, gum, MP3 player, multi tool that had a can opener I need and others i have no doubt forgot that I forgot.

But not having dry socks was the worst.

Yuck I can't think of anything worse than wet feet :(

sleeping bag!

told my friend we'll get her sleeping bag in spain as she was flying there and did'nt have one. i rode down to meet her enjoying the ride and forgetting said sleeping bag! we stayed in hotels but then crossed to morocco where we got caught in bad weather and had to camp. only one sleeping bag so we had to share! 2 people in single bag is a bit tight but it worked:cool4:
i got it right for next years trip though. i'm not taking her!

Military Gore-tex socks keep your feet warm and dry, I ride in MX boots so use them all the time. Dry feet always....

jkrijt 28 Dec 2007 17:23

Stupid me

I arrived at the HU meeting in Belgium with my new tent that I bought the day before............ without tent poles.
Next time I'll check the contents of the bag before I leave home.

Tyre pressure guage !!

DOH !!!

Took me bloody ages to find one in Argentina.

I also forget to forget loads of pointless crap too :rolleyes2:

mattcbf600 2 Jan 2008 16:51

Tent poles is pretty good! What did you do?

I forgot loads of pointless things... silly really... just winds you up... but it's part of the 'adventure' I guess.

Um.. I forgot the sleeping bag! UK HU Meeting 2007.. I had to buy a new one.. Major d'oh!

henryuk 2 Jan 2008 19:17

small but vital

I forgot to take valve shims. shouldn't have been a problem but the ducati engine service intervals made it one!

mattcbf600 3 Jan 2008 10:52

see now Valve shims just wouldn't appear on anyones packing list would they! And how on earth do you do valve clearances on the road - it takes me long enough in the garage with all the right kit! My most advanced intervention on the road is changing the rear brake pads!

Sleeping bag is pretty major though... didn't you notice that your bike was a little 'under packed!'

I can never actually get around to writing a list - I think that's why I always forget stuff :-(

Try bolting it to the underside of the sidestand, can't forget it & it frees up luggage space.......

The Meeting was at the grounds of the castle of Norbert de Schaetzen. Fortunately, Norberts son, Thierry was so kind to loan me his tent so I did not have to drive all the way home to get my other tent.

I brought my headphones, mains charger, bike charger, bike mount for the ipod. And guess where the ipod sat for 4 months?

At home charging on the USB slot of the computer.

Hey good idea - but it's plastic and I don't think it'll last that long - I'll just end up destroying it... hey I end up destroying loads of things! :helpsmilie: Perhaps I should just get on with it and make a metal one and weld it on.

jk - that was lucky - what always amazes me on the road is how everyone pulls together and helps each other out - I often think that's what pulls me back to travelling.

Joe - doh! I love my iPod - I couldn't be without it on those long horrible motorway slogs on your way somewhere interesting.

Yeah, it felt a little underpacked alright, but then, it was just a weekend, and I normally suffice with the bare min for a run like that. I sorted it out one I got there, fortunately! :)
