RTW - buy+reselling vs shipping+guide
Hello fellow travellers
I'm planning my RTW-trip leaving this year around July/August from Switzerland/Europe. Actually it started as a backpacking trip. But the more I think about it, the more I'd like to do it with a bike. So far, the first leg is obvious to me: I could ride without a lot of preparation (no guides, no carnet de passage, easy visa) through the Balkans to Turkey - Caspian Sea to the -Stans. Here comes the problem: China and SEA. It bothers me, that I am forced to ride with a guide through China, Myanmar and Thailand. I dont really want to spent money on the guides, even if I can share the cost with other people. Not that it would break my budget, but the money is better spent elsewhere :) My idea is to sell my bike and gear (protection clothing and helmet!) in Central Asia and continue with just a backpack through Asia and eventually buy a bike in OZ and/or South America again. So, has anyone done similar before? Link to a blog? I have yet to find something similar. Is it worth the hassle to sell and rebuy the stuff (compared to just pay the cost for shipping / guiding)? Thx in advance. Chueckle |
Best to buy an sell in the same country.
Suggestion ? Ride from home through through the Balkans to Turkey, then Georgia to the 'stans, Monglia and back home through Russia. Fly out to India .. buy a bike and ride around India/Nepal ans sell it back where you bough it. Do you backpacking in Asia. Fly to Australia, buy the bike ride around. Possible to ship to and fro for NZ. Fly to the Americas .. buy in the USA and ride around .. etc. ------------ You could make returns to home between each bike easy this way. |
Yes thats how most of the people do it. Check out this plan: The best way to travel from Europa to Australia
I bought and sold my bike in Latin America: Advent&# xff55;re motorbike trip around Latin America - Chile and Argentina And rented different bikes in India and Asia: Advent&# xff55;re motorbike trip around Southeast Asia - Thailand, Laos and Cambodia Only took my European bike around Africa. Enjoy your trip!!! |
Hey
Thx for the response so far. @Warin I have no intention to go back through Russia since it would be cold around october / november. But I'm glad it's a common idea. I got a different picture while browsing through the traveller seeking area. @ta-rider thx for the links, I will check it out later. Any suggestions with the gear (protection gear and helmet)? It might be a pain to carry these around while backpacking. |

Possibly a hotel you want to stay at or a HU community member who can store it for you. Post restante (USA 'general delivery') only works for a limited time, then they send it back to where you posted from. |
