Road through the Gobi
 

Hi we are in Ulaanbaatar at the moment and in the next few days we will be setting off to get to the Chinese border at Erenhot has anybody traveled this way in the recent past and if so what are the road conditions like.

G'day Dave,

Crossed from Erenhot last Monday morning, rode on to Saynshand on a nice new tar road, a few small sections are already under repair with detours. Continued on to Choyr Tuesday, again nice new tar road, before heading West to Govi Ugtaal, camping out in Ih Gadzrig Natural Reserve then continuing on to Mandalgovi. The road from Choyr to Mandalgovi is more dirt track then road, but it is in reasonable condition. The road from Mandalgovi to UB is a nice new tar road apart from the section entering UB, which is patchy pot holed tar and dirt. I'm sure you can find a more adventurous route if that's what you want.
