Riding in the UK on Non UK Registered Motorcycle

My bike is about to arrive in England for temporary use until our tour is completed. It has current Australian registration & staying that way. Other than the Carnet done at clearance, do I need to arrange anything else to ride the bike legally around England, Wales, Scotland & Ireland? I’ve tried the Gov’t sites & nothing is clear.

Should not need MOT etc etc...

The big thing is insurance. You need this legally, third party that is with your rego only covers Australia ... so you need to get it there.

In theory your rego should be up to date apart from that as Warin says you will need insurance, a carnet is not required for temporary importation into the UK, just make it clear to customs that it is a temporary import not permanent or they might try charge import duty.

We see plenty of non UK registered bikes over here. It's all good, they come in on temporary import and you're supposed to re-export them within a certain amount of time (6M I think). Check your insurance to make sure you're covered for UK use. If not you'll need to buy local insurance. Start - TourInsure - Agentur für Touristenversicherungen GmbH should be able to help.
