Purchasing Bike in Australia

Bike Purchase in AustraliaHas anyone recent experience buying a bike in OZ? What is the best method of transferring funds (Canada) to Oz. Any problems with buying in one state and selling in another Australian state? What sales taxes are involved with used bikes? What should one be aware of, with respect to "rego" in Australian states? Thanks for any tips, comments, links.

I don't know if Redhed replied but I've joined this group yesterday looking for the same info. I got my full UK bike license in March and I'm hitting oz in August and want to purchase one in Sydney to ride to Perth but I'll be in oz for a year on a working visa. Any info a the legality of a non Australian resident purchasing a bike in oz is much appreciated.

Are you going to do the three month farmstay/farmwork then extend for another year Gary?

Mezo.

All you need is an address and proof of identity - passport, bank account, credit card, etc.

Each state has its own rules and their web sites have info on the requirements. NSW is probably the "worst" state to buy a bike in because they may require proof of an address ie residency, whereas WA for instance will accept any address you get out of the phone book. Quld supposedly reasonable.
