painting on plastic possible?
Hello, I just bought a TT 350, it's looking nice, except for the plastic (white)of the tank , this dit become yellowisch
This is made of very strong and rigid plastic , is it possible to simply paint this so it becomes white again? Will this work? What type of paint (I prefer spray...no painting experience):oops2: if anybody can help? thanks |
You can paint on plastic in general (you just use a plastic primer). You cannot however paint on plastic tanks. Some vapor seems to get through the plastic and the paint always ends up coming off.

he's right you know..!
Dazed productions is right..! I had an Acerbis tank for my XT600e. I followed plastic painting instructions with correct primer, preparation and paint but all to no avail!
Within 2 days it looks like it had a highly contagious disease when all the paint blistered like mad..! I ended up scraping the whole thing off which made it look terrible, LOL! The fuel vapour comes through the plastic which in turn attacks the paint from below, so no primer will help..! My advice would be just to clean it up as best as possible. there's pics on my ride report www.horizonsunlimited.com/tstories/geoffshing check out the start pics "whey hey set off!" and the rest of the pics of the tank. |
Thanks, for the info, good to know, I'll look for an alternative solution
The tank off the TT 350 is firmly fixed (bolded) to the bike compared to my XT, so to find a suatable (bigger) tank ( cheap) maybe will be a problem. Amazing trip Geoffshing, respect! Thanks |
