Oil Availability
 

Anyone have any idea of oil availability on the road, particularly in Africa? Most modern 4 strokes like fully synthetic oil. Is this widely available or will I have to get by with ordinary mineral oil?

Hi Ian,

I would recommend using the synthetic oil at first, but when it comes time to change be prepared to switch to mineral oil. Synthetic is rare in parts of Africa.

Switching either way is not generally a problem according to the Bel-Ray rep I spoke to on this subject recently. In rare - very rare - instances there is a problem with the oil "globbing" due to incompatibility, but he felt that it was so rare as to not be a concern. Just make sure to change the filter as well when switching oils.
