northmen in Iran

Me and my son starts our trip from north Sweden early spring 2013 and we will enter Iran from Turkey with our mc,s around mid may.My question is,,,, how do i get Iranian rial, should i have dollar ore euro and exchange at the border???

Mehmet Zeki Avar 17 Feb 2013 13:21

At both sides of the bordergate, you will be surrounded by many guys with offers for exchange...Make a good bargain...Definitely this will be good experience for shopping in Asia...

Important Tips..
**Gas is very expensive in Turkey,(2,10 Euros) and around 1/5 th.of this price in Iran..
**Keep yourself uptodate with current situation in Iran.Dont believe medya, best way is to keep in touch with local bikers and those who have just been there.. Local people are very friendly and hosting..All bikers gather small groups to enter Iran and exit to Pakistan..(Bam for escort planning so the real adventure starts until you are in Multan (lucky option) or until Lahore(unlucky option)..)In Multan and Lahore you will meet most friendly local bikers.
You will meet here many current information and bikers on the same destination with you.
All questions always welcome.
Wish you all the best..

Thanks Mehmet for info,so i guess euros will be a god currency to exchange into rials.About these guys at the border,do they all try to rip you off ore is it ok toexchange money with them.

Mehmet Zeki Avar 17 Feb 2013 17:43

Best is USD. and Euro..Forget credit cards...No ATM. available, also no legal facebook...

2 km. ahead the bordergate is the Bazargan town..Even on holidays when banks are closed, you will meet the same offers in front of the banks with banknotes in the hands..Not illegal, not dangerous...Nop. for exchange with these foxes...Just be aware of the rates..Bargain is a must and legal..

Not a warning as Iran is really a wonderful country with history, nice cities and very friendly local people, just be carefull to these points.:

1-Never take photos of the military areas.
2-Never take the photos of the soldiers or escort police before asking for permission. After permission, you can even have your photo taken with their guns in your hands.
3-After Tehran, take the main road to Zahedan, keep away from roads close and parallel to Afganistan borderline..(Tehran,Kashan,Esfahan Nain,Yazd, Kerman,Bam,Zahedan then Taftan bordergate (only 1) to Pakistan)
4-Definitely obey escort police in South Iran and Pakistan. They are there for our safety and even share their bread with passengers.
5-Locals get alchol in deserts with a having picnic look.Never accompany them even they are safe and friendly..

After south Tehran, you will meet many passengers on the main road to the same or opposite destination with you.(Good to exchange tips and maps)

If you need any local support or advice while in Turkey, dont hesitate to ask via facebook..

And finally a request;
please dont forget to share your current experiences, and tips (even negative for Turkey) with us for the following travellers..

Wish you all the best.
