I'd like to do a bit of reading of bike maintenace and repairs. Any ideas and recommendations?

I rather like The Essential Guide to Motorcycle Maintenance by Mark Zimmerman, Whitehorse press, 254 pages.
Got mine from Amazon.

Haynes Techbook Series
 

The Haynes Techbook Series is really good.

You could start with Motorcycle Maintenance By Keith Weighill and then move on to these when you want to know more.

Motorcycle Basics Techbook (2nd Edition) by Matthew Coombs

Then more technical in the following
Motorcycle Workshop Practice TechBook (2nd Edition)
Motorcycle Fuel Systems TechBook
Motorcycle Electrical TechBook (3rd Edition)
