May I have some help sourcing a used DR650 in the USA?
Living in damp-rock (UK) trying to source a used but newish Suzuki DR650 in the states to ship over here as they are no longer sold in the UK.
I can read classifieds off the net but can't obviously view a bike so was wandering if anyone stateside could flag up a 2012/15 low milage DR which looks like a good buy and p-message me here. I would be more than willing to return favours or pay as this is the only way I can see to get hold of a simple light travel bike platform. Cheers alan |
I purchased mine in Germany...? Mobile.de or EBay can produce good used DR.

Here are a few examples from the northwest US. You should come over and ride some and ship the bike back.

If you see any on craigslist New York City. I can take a look at them for you. I may be able to help with shipping too, though mainly to Europe mainland for about $400. Not sure if this service goes to Britain or not.

If you make a more meaningfull title to your post than just "help" you may get even more help. Also makes reading the forum alot more enjoyable for everyone, since you really don't "need" help, like an actual emergency situation :-)

Where you need to go is here: Adventure Rider
This is THE american forum. Make a post there and I think you will find someone. I actually found a guy there who bought a bike for me, picked it up and registered it in my name and held it for me for a couple of months before I came over there and drove it to Argentina. He was an ex-brit by the way. Best of luck with your purchase |

I just tried to edit the title to make you happy but I can't I'm so sorry. Rest assured if I needed help with a crisis then it would be in the respective bike tech section or paperwork section or whatever. I am actually asking for help as I am going with friends on a trip to Morocco early next year and need to buy a bike asap. Once again apologies for making you read my post then forcing you to analyse and then criticise it. I often wonder where would we be without folks such as yourself keeping everyone in line |
Well sorry for wasting your time then. I still mean what I said. Veteran hubbers (whom you rely on to answer the question) usually arent offended by meaningless headings but it is nuisance.
I am not going to comment on your remarks about my friendly advice  |

Shipping firm KINGSTOWN
Not Seen this outfit on here but had a very good conversation with them yesterday about shipping bikes. They ship from ports all around the states and for some reason shipping from the west coast is no more expensive than the east?! As well as the shipping the guy said he could arrange transport from a dealer to the port and when the bike arrives in Blighty I would pay them only as they take care of the vat and import duty admin. Brilliant. Cost, £600
I told the guy to check out this site which he did as we spoke. I suggested to him that a spot of regulate advertising on here would no doubt bring him a lot of other business as people ship their bikes all the time when travelling. Grant if you're reading this it might be worth contacting them? Apologies if all this has been done before but if it has I didn't spot it so they need to use BIGGER adverts!! Title fixed - no charge :smiliex:
And now a W has been added as well. |
Cheers Bertrand
Throw a W in the next one if you've still got your eraser out. It's Kingstown :thumbup1:

this is about as cheap as you'll find around the midwest:

Hi Alan
I need to ask you a question .... do you know what is the difference between the DR650 which has been produced in 1996 and which has 15.000km in Germany and the same one which was produced in 2010 with 15.000km in the USA. .... just when produced .... just that and nothing more. Of course, if you buy one in Germany will cost you less. Just a friendly advice. Ride safe |

I tried again to edit but can't tamper with the title myself, bloody iPhone dropped the W. Must be on account of the amount of reggae I buy off of iTunes. This is getting more complex than a tax return :eek3: |

I am looking for a newer model (see above) So in answer to your question, the difference is nearly twenty years and it will take me months to get it to the mechanical condition I want. I'd rather work doing carpentry and buy the newer bike. Bit like asking what is the difference between a woman born in 1960 and one born in 1980 :tt1: |
Wheel bearing which is produced 96 and which is driven 15000km is the same as a wheel bearing which was is produced in 2015 and who also passed the 15,000km
Or maybe I'm wrong I'm sorry I am from Serbia, the Balkans. Safe ride |
Done this already...
It is my personal buying criteria as listed above. Twenty years is a long time for something made from low quality metal and stored outside for most of its life. I see this as a bonus on the reliability side. Wiring deteriorates plastic goes brittle. Like I say it is what I personally am looking for.
If I find a 1996 bike in the same condition as a 2013/14 bike with every single part replaced with new parents then I will buy it. And why apologise for being from Serbia? Thank you for your input on this thread and doing so in my language :-) |

ps Now I am editing from a minute ago. Correction to above - after clicking on the edit button it will offer you the chance to "save, go advanced, delete, cancel". You want the second option. |

Okay it looks like I'm sorted. Got my deposit on a 2013 DR and am about to organise shipping. How do I delete this thread?
