Looking to ship a package to San Cristobal de las Casas
 

Hi folks:

I have a package of motorcycle related items I'd like to receive in San Cristobal de las Casas in Mexico. This is where I estimate I'll be in 2 weeks (USPS estimate states 6-10 days for delivery). I'm going to ship it with USPS International Priority Mail because the large box is only $55; compared to $150-200 for FedEx/DHL/UPS.

I'm wondering about finding an address there I can ship it to? I would have her ship it to me here in Puerto Escondido; but I don't want to wait 2 weeks here.

My options seem like:
1) Find a hostel and have it shipped there.
2) Find a ADV member close by and have it shipped there
3) Find a post office who can hold the package until my arrival.

What would your suggestion be?

Poste Restante.-This service enables the user to receive correspondence in the post office of his choice, either because there is no delivery at his physical address, he is temporarily away from his address, or simply he prefers that correspondence delivery be confidential.

(More intended for parcels/mail sent by Post, but you can always ask).

I am Spanish (so I know nothing about Correos de México to advice), but if you would need any help with the language, I'd be happy to do it.

When i have stuff shipped to Mexico city by USPS it normally takes 3-5 weeks. as I am not in a hurry nit doesn't really matter.

What level of service is that of the USPS? Global Priority Mail? Something else?

If it's going to be that long; there's no way it will arrive in time :).

That's priority mail. You can use the same tracking number to check where it is in the States or Mexico. When it leaves the States you wil then have to track it using Correos de Mexico. It will take about 2 weeks to appear on their site and then another 4 or 5 days before it gets to you. The last package I got was sent on August 15th and arrived on Sept. 5th so it took 3 weeks and a day to get here. It may take longer to get to San Cristobal or it may not. I can't see it taking a week.
