London - Cape town: How Much?

How much do you think it will cost me realistically to travel from London to cape town (via east Africa) over a six month period, including all visas, paperwork etc...etc from start of preperation to arriving in cape town? (Not including the bike and gear.)
Can anyone who has made the trip give me a rough estimate?

Cheers

I havn´t made it myself, though one person who has told me it would be possible with 5000euro.
I do believe it is, if you drive a low consuming bike example thumper 600 in his case.
Though Id keep an extra for upcoming problems, I would realistically go with 8000.

Costs?

Well, was the trip ever done, and if so at what cost??

If you're planning to fly back don't forget cost of airfreighting bike and ticket for yourself. :smile2:

8000 euro would suffice for a 180 day trip; averaging 44.444 euro a day. But take also into consideration exchange rate fluctuations, fees when withdrawing out of atms, carnet fees, emergency evacuations etc.

Remember, you have 180 days.

You can easily do it with 3000GBP, so thats approx 5000EURO.

Main cost for me was accomodation (cheap but sometimes its nice to splurge), petrol, bike service in Nairobi and ferry to Africa in the first place...

Oh and I got a bit extra in hospital fee's but thats just me. Saying that, pack a good first aid kit and its nice to know the contact details for your embassy in some countries. Just in case...

Oh and I appreciate the last paragraph is not relevant to the question.
