Leaving Bike in Bolivia for 14 month
 

Does anybody know if there is a way to leave a german registered Bike for approx. 14 month in Bolivia without paying a lot of customs-duties? Legal ist three month, but we need to park it in La Paz between two trips for that time period. Thanks for any help, request or experiences! Claudia and Markus

I think it would be hard because of very high import fees for bikes in Bolivia. I plan to leave my bike in Uruguay. Up to one year should be no problem there.

Just finished my searchings for my turkish friend and happy to share good news..
Best places for longterm parking when you are out of the country are Uruguay 11 months, in and out to argentina on the ferry than another 11 months.
Brasil..unlimited..

Best is to leave the bike in Brazil. Bolivia you can get 180 days, but not 14 months.

Would be nice, but I would like to see some 'proof' rather than third-hand conjecture based on nothing concrete. Even a convincing FIRST-hand detailed account would be better than nothing. Often pretty easy to leave a vehicle behind within the TIP validity period PROVIDED you don't ask officially, or if you get an official suspension, but this "unlimited" bit is the problem.

Also reported that if you arrive in Uruguay on the ferry, you may not get a 12-month TIP

What you can do legally is one thing, and what someone got away with in the past is quite another and anyway bears not the slightest resemblance to what you might get away with in the future

Arg- 9 months - Dakar Motos
Brasil - apparently unlimited
Suriname and the Guiana's - no idea
Venezuela - currently may be like Hotel California.... can never leave ... pretty unstable country. Not recommended but I believe that the TVIP is also 90 days.
All other S. AMer countries - 90 days with possible extensions made in person.

You may find posts claiming ways around these time periods in Colombia for example but I understand that these are "work-around" solutions and not necessarily endorsed by the governing laws.
