Kathmandu - hire and parts

Not quite long distance riding here, but....

Can anyone suggest places in Kathmandu for
- motocycle hire (preferably Enfield).
- Enfield spare parts.

Thanks.

See the Links page for links to Asia Tours and Indian Shepherds, possibly others, that are in the area. Not sure if any are based in Kathmandu, but should be able to help you out. Both very helpful.

I was in Kathmandu in 1998. I didn't look into Enfields, but renting ANY bike bigger than 125cc was a problem. Several hire-companies kept me with talk for a week, everyone would have a 250cc "tomorrow". A 250cc is a big bike in Nepal. Anyway, I ended up with a 125cc, unfortunately not an offroad (also hard to find), so my trip to the Tibetanian border was a little tuff, with muddy roads and even small rivers crossing the road.

Having just got back from Kathmandu I have the answer.

A group of Bullet enthusuasts have very recently set up a company called Himalayan Enfielders. They have a full range of services - spares/ repairs/ servicing/ hire/ etc. and are really helpful guys.

Easy to find to. Head north up Lazimpath, past the turning to the British & Indian High Commissions on left, past Bluebird Supermarket on right and about ΒΌ mile further on then the turning on the right to the Israeli embassy opposite the Blue Moon Coldstore on the left. If you pass the ShangriLa Hotel on the left you've gone too far.
