Is this bike worth the price?

2009 klr 650 with 4000 miles, practically new tires, front fork stabilizer, tank map bag, extended windshield, hand guards, Quick release hard cases and turtle shell. Bike has a fresh oil change and ready for the road. US$4350.00

Im debating myself whether to buy it or not. I will be away from the USA for 1 year for work in about 3 weeks and I will start my journey in August 2013.. to me it seems to be a good deal but will it be worth to leave the bike parked for 12 months?

The bike is ready for the trip though... what do you guys think abt it?

here are the pics of the bike:

klr650

That is a great bike. I have a 2009, bought new for$4750. :funmeteryes:The kit on that bike would set you back another $2000 at least:thumbup1:. I have 24000m now, including a trip to Prudoe Bay and the Dempster Highway. It is recommended to do the Doohicky Mod. Visit the KLR650.net for everything about KLR.

No, it is definitely not the bike for you because you are going overseas to work, for a year, but your contract may well be extended, or the world will turn and burn, or .............. lots of things can change in the next year!

I have always tended to sell a bike when I have gone overseas to work; I broke that personal rule once (and bought another one) and it didn't work out well at all - all done in a rush = problems.

On the other hand, it might be an absolute bargain; it takes two to make a sale, and only you know what you are prepared to offer for this particular machine.

BTW, the USA is full of KLR 650s. Another one will come along.

I bet the seller will take $4K, maybe even less.

If so, then ..

BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. BUY IT .. In other words .. I think you should BUY IT!

:D

Then start planning your journey over the next 12 months, for real, whilst you're away.

Reasonably priced, but.....

Check if it burns oil. Lots of the 2008+ KLRs do, and the only fix is a 685cc kit along with lapping the valves (research on klr650.net for details).

I agree with the other poster that being away for a year, anything could happen.

If you can buy in October through January, you will get better deals for better equipped bikes.

There are a few additional changes I would make to a KLR before traveling long-term on one. Doohickey, crash bars, and a better seat would be at the top of the list, followed closely by a 685cc kit (especially if it is burning oil). Depending on where and how long you will travel, better suspension front and rear.

Kawasaki sells an upgrade set of rings which addresses the oil burning problem. Some have succeeded in getting this done under warranty, others not. You might want a 685 kit, but it's not the only solution.

Spectacular deals on KLR's come along fairly often in the USA. Some turn out to be not-so-spectacular when you look closely, but there are a lot of genuine bargains. Examine the bike carefully, and don't hurry.
